I think it was good that HL2 got leaked while HL2 was in its "infant stages" think if the chicken pocks, you kinda want to get it when your young so you don't get it when your older.

Now since HL2 was in its infant stages, and got hacked valve was able to get a better secruity system etc..for everything, I mean look what bungie\microsoft is goin through right now. I bet if halo 2 were hacked a long long time ago when it was started, they would of increased there secruity and it would of never got fully leaked.

So I kinda thank the oringal hacker in some way(though I do still hat e him). Because of him I doubt HL2 will really get leaked when were coming close to its release, because valve have gotten smart with there firewalls, secruity, everything.

Generally, games get leaked from a company disc that's been sent somewhere, IIRC. The stealing of the stolen build via a hacking incident was not a leak.

Also, extra network security would not prevent the final master copy being leaked, as they'd be on a disk away from the VALVe offices, not on the VALVe network. It may get leaked by someone who makes a copy of one of the master discs that gets sent to the... cutters, I think they're called.

Also, with the theft of the stolen build came the theft of much of the source code, and that is a very, very bad thing for a software company.

There is also a conpiracy that Gabe is actually the G-Man and he will use HL2 to take over the world. HL2 is actually a digital nano-virus which will spread into HL2's targeted audience (17-30, perfect age for an army, a combine army).

Possible i suppose, even though youre probably joking. Ive always wondered how the hacker couldve possibly gotten the ip of the box that had hl2 on it. Unless it was one of valves servers, or there is a valve insider who told them.
But didnt they say it had nothing to do with the leak anyway?
