Not true about 'no spoilers' though, there's a segment that gives away a pretty significant 'discovery'. Although that's probably just me nitpicking, I suppose you wouldn't know unless you were looking for it (or seen the movie already).

Best part of the shining...Stanley Kubrick's really long tracking shot of the boy on his small bike going round the empty hotel.
All you hear is the noise of the wheels on wood floor, then carpet, floor, carpet etc. It just spooks you out.

After The Shining, my favourite horror film is Don't Look Now, made in 1973. Don't read up about it, just know that it is very classy, very spooky, and very very good. It ****s with your mind. Just go and rent it.

Interesting, didn't know that at all. I figured it was all part of the script since the film intentionally references many popular television quotes / segments throughout the movie and I assumed "Here's Johnny!" was part of it. Props to Nicholson if he improvised it on the spot, but the man's money when it comes to acting so it's not all that surprising.
