EDIT: Oh jesus, sorry guys, bit tired, can someone move it to general gaming?

So yeah, I remember playing Morrowind for about a year, with all the expansions. By the end I had great house with so many artifacts, custom furniture, tons of books, personal guards, even two slaves. Everything was customized, from crab’s meat to god’s weapons. Around November of last year, I got tired of Morrowind and decided to put it aside, delete from my harddrive, while transforming all my save games to another harddrive archive. Well, two days ago I was playing the Longest Jorney, it’s a adventure game, and for some reason I wanted to play Morrowind once again. I installed it, took out my harddrive archive and… all saves are gone! Year of gaming is gone, my character is dead.

Damn, should I start again? What mods should I install, I don’t remember ANYTHING.

Well at least it's not an MMORPG, right?

I won’t lose sleep over it at all, but I am wondering should I start Morrowind all over again, but I explored pretty much everything there was to explore. Maybe to roleplay this time, as a thief or something? Anyone tried roleplaying in Morrowind?

Screw morrowind and go play some FPS!NOW!I don't want to lose another person to a rpg!

madness. pure madness.

the official morrowind site has a few downloads that need installing, and it also has links to loads of fansites which hold all the best mods. have a good look around and install the best ones for you. it'll be a pretty different experience to the first time, and probably more rewarding. go for it.

Not a very challenging Adventure game, thats probably why you reverted to Morrowind. Anyway if you have that sudden RPG craving like me right now go and gets one you havn't played.

I went down to EBgames near where I live and picked up Diablo 2 for $15 not bad at all I reckon.

You'll find it much more amusing to roleplay in an MMORPG.

yep!!! why play on your own when real players can get your customised items and buy stuff from your house??? my opinion.. get WOW when it comes out.

The monthly fee :)

the mothly fee is only £8 a mont or something, that is £2 a week... hardly a lot. tbh, this is the reason i haveny played many MMORPGs in the past, but i am willing to make an exception for WOW. it just looks that good!

if you want an MMORPG that's free, wait for Guild Wars. should be out some time this year. FarrowLeSparrow will attest to it's wholesome goodness.

I played guild wars for the E3 thing, and after you got past the initial "man this game sucks" it became REALLY fun. I loved playing healer in the PvP battles, and the quests were very fun. I love how anyone any level can be good if they just use the right skills.

My bro deleted my Morrowind savegame...I had to restart, but now my guy is better :D

Sometimes, it's good to create a new person with totally different attributes. My friend didn't think magic was any good, but now he loves it :D

I had something similar happen, only I purposely deleted it all. I recently reinstalled and started adding plugins to it again, i think this time round I made more of an effort and it looks rather spiffy now

I'd say its definately worth giving it another go. Roleplaying is a lot of fun in it. Especially in bloodmoon.

check out the elderscrolls forums, and morrowind summit for some great mods

and install Morrowind enhanced, aswell as the fps optimizer

Here's a list of what mods I have installed, to give you a head start. They all seem to work ok together, for the time being atleast :)

I just grabbed the list from the morrowind .ini file. You should be able to use it to search out the mods and DL them... There's more than I thought, I seriously gotta stop downloading MWmods lol

morrowind is an FPS.. well for me anyway, as i have a crossbow :p

i find morrowind incredibly boring tbh, as evereyhting (even map making) takes about 100X longer to do well in morrowind. its all just so big... which i suppose can be a good thing, but its just too daunting. i mean what happens when you decide to stop playing? shit, ive wasted 100 hours of my life and it wasnt even an online game ;(

at least you get things out of MMORPGs..

that said, theres still a chance i could play it someday... hmm.. but seeing as i still havent completed freelancer, W3: frozen throne, medieval, a load of GC games and Theif 3 (which is coming through the post as i speak)... plus i have a ton ofe homework that never ends and i have tons of DvDs i still havent watched.. also i saw unreal 2 in the shops for a tenner today, along with red faction for £3.99...

...probally not anytime soon then...

Heh, Morrowind is boring, the only reason I played it, was to decorate it house, after all it was much more fun to do than the same thing in Sims. One thing I like about Morrowind though are books, they are long and very interesting.

It sounds like a conspiracy. Everybody has had their Morrowind characters deleted. I lost mine to a harddrive crash several months ago. ;(

I loaded up Morrowind the other day and forgot how much effort it takes to start a new character (I gave up on it). If HL2 and Doom 3 are delayed any more, I may have to make another character (and actually play it again).

Only for the time being. As soon as ATI release programmable smartshader support for DirectX (currently only OpenGL is supported) should be able to easily program a shader to do that in DX games such as Morrowind. Who needs guildwars then :)

And morrowind isn't boring when you really get into it. Throw in loads of mods and it just keeps getting better. Great fun wandering the wilderness only to spot a Titan in the distance then crap yourself when it spots you and starts throwing boulders in your direction. Or becoming a marksman with a bow. Cliff Racers only use is for target practice, I've got pretty good at it. There's loads you can do in the game if you really get into it.

Then the fact its so damn easy to mod for. There's nothing stopping you from making tons and tons of extra quests, use leveled creatures to add a bit of variety, some random events. Change and add animations done with Reactor in Max, get faked physics in Morrowind, that look just as good as HL2's :E

What about mod a large scale battle. One of those mods I listed has one of those and its great fun, if incredibly difficult :) Heck there's a Helms Deep mod in there, you could add a load of those goblin or Orc's Morrowind already has and stage your own Two Towers :p

Really, its a brilliant game. Just keep downloading mods :)

Where's that light effect mod? I want that!

EDIT: Oh wait, that was you? Damn.

God the blood and gore mod is the best! Reminds me of HL. :D

The only reason for me to hate Morrowind would be the ridiculous level system. Whack a monster with a sword 50 times and your sword skill goes up. This may be like real life in a sense but I love the old;

Kyo casts blah at blah dealing blah damage
blah dies
Kyo gets 50 exp

/edit Fenric help me out pls list some of the sites you found those mods exempt the obvious like morrowind summit.

I prefer Morrowinds method. I've never been much of a fan of the whole "oh if your a wizard you can't learn how to use a crossbow" just seemed silly to me, I like morrowind because I can start as one character, then become another type entirely over time if I work at it.

As for links, paste different mods from that list into google, or search engines on the ES site or other ES sites, in some cases add Morrowind on the end. Should find them all. I don't keep favorites of them all as I'm usually in too much of a rush to DL as many as I can heh. But google should help find them

Whats this? Build your own house? :( I dont have any mods or expansion packs :O.
What i think is the best thing about morrowind is that you can steal almost any item and sell it on :). Its great! But it gets a bit boring doing that all the time so i prefere the jobs/tasks. I like to go with the whole "my character is good" or " my character doesnt steal from poor people" it makes it more interesting and It just gets stupid if you join all the guilds/factions. The only problem I find is that morrowind insists on crashing constantly and randomly. But most of the time its ok since I can play 2 hours+ and not have it crash.

What I'll do is buy a house from the real estate agent. Then when I've got enough money each time I'll go into TES and make changes to the house, then give the money to the poor or something while roleplaying it. Works for building your own homes.

There's a few quests that give you your own home if you want to earn them. Or just build one in TES for the fun of it. Or dl a mod of countless homes. My current favorite is a big house just outside of Balmora, the one in that pic infact, just below the airship house which is another mod.

Bloodmoon has the best ones and one lets you pretty much run a whole town. So if you wanted you could roleplay it and gradually build more to your littlw town until it covers most of bloodmoon, turn a nice pretty little island into a huge city :)

heh im not very far in morrowind, I start doing some quests for one person and then doing something completely different with another. Most of the time im just stuck in one part for weeks because I insist on stealing something which is usually useless.
Ill try this out when I get further :)

prepare to lose your life ;)
Hehe he's got that right. I lost months if not years cause of Daggerfall, and Morrowind is becoming just as bad, and with the whole adding all sorts to it. It could go on forever. The engine is VERY scalable too, which I think is great. Could be playing the same old morrowind in 4 years time with stupidly powerful machines, using mods that crank up all the details incredibly high. I don't think there's an actual limit on poly counts or texture sizes or objects in a specific cell (within reason of course, doubt its infinite numbers)

I'd love to see someone try actually. Remake the whole thing updating everything to silly amounts, a few years it'll be runable, and a few years is what it'll take to do it too :)

Anyone know where I can get the files to update textures? The files on the links posted don't work.

Best bet is to search for them on the usual Morrowind sites (summit, source, mod) go through links and hunt them down.

Is Morrowind THAT good?

I mean really, I've heard good things about it, but it's been what? 2 years since the launch ?

/me ducks and prepares to be flamed by hardcore Morrowind fans....

It is great, really. I heard that there is 300 hours in the game alone. It has excellent graphics. I suggest you get it. The GOTY edition has Morrowind and all of its expansions for $30!

No really, its THAT good. If you play it properly it just keeps getting better and better. I've had it a while now and still haven't really scratched the surface. At the moment I'm playing as a Mage. I'm still having fun and I haven't yet begun to enchant items or go thieving or do many of the main morrowind quests, only done tribunal and bloodmoon, and haven't bothered to do any this time. Just running around doing my own thing, which at the moment is hunting for treasure and fancy weapons, just found the Stormkiss axe after hearing someone else couldn't find it atall, followed their directions to the general area and eventually found where it was hiding. Course knowing morrowind, I've likely pissed off a bunch of people who'll now start coming after me. Which will be fun :p

You definately need to download the mods though. MW is a great game but they make a big difference. Unlike HL, where a mod is pretty much some new maps and maybe weapons and the odd enemy. Morrowind's mods are more bolted onto the actual game. Some might add new buildings, or new landmass, weapons, enemies, better graphics, more quests. There's so many of them. Also unlike something like HL, if you want to move something in the map, you can just run the editor, move it, save it as a plugin then play the game with it installed and your changes are right there. Get bored of them, don't load the plugin with the game and its back to normal. The devs made the game completely open and it paid off. It's also got a great weather system which can make for some great views. Can also make your own spells, haven't really tried that since Daggerfall though.

It's only downside is constantly loading in new area's of the map, and if you use the optimiser to increase view distances, you'll often see the edges. But its a small price to pay.

I'd buy it definately, though you do need a pretty powerful machine to run at its best. And a few gig for mods ;)

My current character, an elf with some pretty nifty clothing :D

is that bonemold or ivory your character is wearing? funky helmet too. i prefer the orcish helmet, looks a little like my avatar.

have you managed to find the Umbra sword? there's a warrior south of balmora who's itching for a fight, i wandered over thinking i could take him, but he's bastard hard. went off and levelled up a bit, came back and won the fight. the Umbra sword is possibly the best longsword in the whole game.

damn :/ feel like playing morrowind again..

The Cuirass is Imperial Templar Knight, expensive skirt (hey it looks good ok!;)) Indoril Boots and Imperial Templar Knight Pauldron's. The helmet is the helm of Elendil and the weapon is Narsil (from a mod of course, but I just HAD to get them, difficult fight IIRC) oh and an Exquisite Shirt and Extravagant Pants (gotta laugh at the names haha)

the Umbra sword rings a bell, don't think I have that, but since I'm near Balmora at the moment I think I'll go hunt some Orc then ;). Will post again if I find him :D

I wont post again if he kicks my ass though :p

Not knowing anything about the game, I picked it up as a Platinum Hits Xbox title. Kind of wish I got the PC (or at least GOTY) version now, but at least my life won't be swallowed whole by the deluge of mods.

Great game, by the way. I'm just getting into it.
