My 3 year old 250gb HD started causing my PC to crash recently. I looked up the warranty and it was going to expire 5 days from then. I quickly requested the RMA, and today the replacement arrived. They upgraded me to a 320gb caviar blue! Though it's probably because they don't manufacture my old drive anymore, it was a pleasant surprise.

That's awesome. I've done that with a couple of my drives (very close to the 5yr warranty on one of them) and actually paid the price to upgrade instead of getting the same model. But it wasn't more than the same thing on newegg and I got to keep the bad drive (worked but just started loosing sectors).

yes they are great, all my internal and external drives are WD drives.

I don't think I got a 5 year warranty on mine, but I will see if I can't return one of mine that made some noises the other day. I've had it less than 2 years.

MY WD 500GB EXTERNAL HDD is amazing, it dropped from 3 feet and fell onto the concrete floor and it still runs. the cable went bad but I just took an older cable from my Seagate 250GB HDD and it runs even faster now for some odd reason.

I've not had a drive fail in lots of years......actually, I can't say I remember having a drive fail on me yet. I've only had 3 HDD's my life. a 60g, 120g and 360g. Currently using the 120 and 360.

WD is the shit.

yeah Western Digital is da bomb! also I'm waiting for the 2TB drives to hit the $115-120 price point. i think its only going to take another 6 months. And I can always just back up stuff on DVD just to be safe

They won't come down in price until there is some proper competition in the 2TB market. I hope the performance isn't slow. I'm waiting to see what the competition (especially Samsung) comes out with in comparison.

I love WD, I have 2 250gbs and 1 320gb in my PC right now. Never given me any issues.

Western Digital all the way! I've never had a problem with their HDDs. Their Raptor series are awesome hard drives.

I've used Western Digital, Seagate, Iomega, and Maxtor. I currently have 3 WD internal drives, and 1 Maxtor internal, and then 2 seagate externals 1 maxtor external, 1 iomega external, and 1 WD external.

The only one thats given me any trouble so far is the iomega one, its pretty much shot to shit, and its less than a year old. My seagate freeagent drive seems to be disconnecting a lot recently though, but that could be the cable, or the fact that I've accidentally yanked the wire and smashed the drive into my wall two or three times.

Right, I've always used WD and never had one fail either, but recently I really like the Samsung F1. Only time will tell if it is as reliable.

PS: I'm using Seagate
