you used to see how many people browsing hl 2 forum etc
or cs source.
and i dont see it anymore maybe the admins could fix?

They probably took it out because it slows down the site too much. esp with gold announcement

Do you happen to frequent the Atari forums?

Ya i wish that they would enable that back. Its fun seeing all the people online but remember saves bandwith not enabling whos online list.

In really busy times, such as the Gold announcment day, we had around 2000 people browsing the forums at one point. I think something like 600-800 of those were actual members of the forum. That's 600-800 names that the database has to display, arrange into alphabetical order etc. Then it works out how many people are viewing each forum section etc. etc. and it really does have a detrimental effect to the site. Disabling features like this makes the forums run a lot smoother, esepcially in times like that.

I'd imagine we're keeping it like this for the time being to save one of the admins having to go turning the options on and off etc.

Chris_D has a really good point. I cant believe that many people where on then, thats just amazing!!
