I need another book to read for school, but this time it can be any book over 150 pages...anyone have any reccomendations? Somthing about the string theory would be cool, but probably too complicated for me...

I don't know if you're into fantasy or anything, but try J.R.R Tolkien's "The Hobbit". It may sound a bit geeky, but the book is very nice. I read it about three years ago.

wasnt the half life strategy guide over 150 pages..?

If you want a good old-fashioned mind****, I recommend VALIS by Philip K. Dick. I've been (trying to) read it again recently, and it's still fantastic.

I have already read The Hobbit, but I will check out VALIS.

Look to Windward by Iain M. Banks, brilliant sci-fi book. :)

Foxtrot this should be on your reading list:

Manufacturing Consent by Noam Chomsky

Bruce Campbell's autobiography. Just finished it. It's great.

Edit: If you want to know about string theory read The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene. ISBN is 0-099-28992-X if you're interested :p

the cider house rules by john irving

the name of the rose by umberto eco

what's eating gilbert grape by peter hedges

ham on rye by charles bukowsky

Fevre Dream - George RR Martin

I Am Legend - Richard Mathisen

Bruce Campbells biog is indeed superb - if Chins Could Kill

Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card

Red Mars - Kim Stanley Robinson

Artemis Fowl - Eion Colfer

The Amulet Of Samarkand - Jonathan Stroud

Book of the New Sun - Gene Wolfe

Spies - Michael Frayn

Sabriel - Garth Nix

the list could go on :)

1984 would be my choice, very good book. I only got about 50 pages left and its really made me think about the world I'm living in.

Is a breif history of the universe any good?
By Bill Bryson?

Yeah. I hear it's good. His other books definitely are. I also recommend Down Under.

Another Fine Myth.

Very cool IMP, deals with the stuff like Magic and all that fantasy stuff. Very cool, (and funny) I have read it countless times.

And if you like that, there are more of them, Myth Conceptions, Myth Directions, Hit or Myth, Etc.

:D

Heres some books Ive found valuable over the years:
The Wisdom of insecurity-Alan Watts
The Culture of Fear-Bary Glassner
The Age of Reason-Thomas Paine
Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television-Jerry Mandler
A Philosophical Investigation-Philip Kerr
Lies We Live By:The art of Self-Deception-Eduardo Giannetti

Unless he means A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. Which is also good.

I also just finished reading The Risen Empire by Scott Westerfeld. It's a pretty good sci-fi novel.

Sword of Truth series is pretty good so far, only on the second book but yea. I couldnt put the first one down.

The Giver is amazing... dont think its over 150 pages though... hmm

Stephen King:
The Stand
Dreamcatcher
Hearts in Atlantis

Anne McCaffrey
The Ship who Sang
The City who Fought
The Powers that Be

Dan Brown
The Davinci Code
Digital Fortress

Fredrick Forsyth
Icon
The Day of the Jackal
The Odessa File

I preferred Neither Here Nor there, to be honest.

I'd suggest Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. It's utterly astonishingly good.

1984 by george orwell or blindness by jose sarimago

2 very powerful books that will most likely change your way of thinking at least a bit

If you want a funny read, try the hitch-hikers guide to the galaxy series of books.

Urmm, anything by Hunter S Thompson, i'd go for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail 72.
