When I say I need a fan, I mean I need a fan with some major power but quiet. I am hoping someone here can point me to a good case fan before my computer gets cooked.

I have already bought the SP-97 heat sink along with a 92mm fan to put on top of it, but a new problem arised shortly after when I decided to play Farcry. Instead of my CPU getting, parts of my system are becoming hot(54c+), and I wish I could say which part it was being an Intel motherboard and all, but sadly it doesn't. So any suggestions for brands or specific fan models would me great.

what kind of cpu you got?

maybe try some artic silver 5 and a nice 92mm vantec stealth.
a vantec spectrum would help with case/videocard temps a bit also.

Two words: Vantec Tornado
err
did you even read his post?

he said powerful but quiet. i have a tornado, and its the last thing from quiet. (one of the loudest fans you can get for a pc)

Well theres no such thing as powerful and quiet. There is powerful and decently quiet, but no such thing as quiet....for the cooling that sucker gives off i suggest he does it.

A 92mm fan would be more quiet but a 80mm fan would actually give lower temps. A good 80mm fan with high CFM will cool any beast on that HS. A 92mm fan allows the air to pass the heatsink on either side and it doesn't force the air down the fins like a 80mm fan.

Search for a review on google, 92mm vs 80mm on thermalright HS.

I have the Thermalright SP-97 with Artic Silver 5 and a 92mm Zalman somthing fan all smack on top of my Intel 3.0e(I realise I may have done better with the 3.0c, but whatcha gonna do?)

The Zalman fan I have on top of my Heatsink has two modes, normal, and quiet. The normal is 36db? I believe that is the correct label.. And the quiet is 22 I believe. When I first set it up I had it on normal, but it was pretty loud, so, naturally, I switched to it quiet mode which is 1600RPM vs the normal 3000RPM, and it stayed cool for a while, then all of a sudden it decided to spaz out and give me hell. I am hoping it's just because my computer hasn't been restarted in 4 days, and my computer is just trying to process more then nessasary.

I can be your fan.
No offense, but that was complete, and useless spam...

I am really looking for suggestions, not a place for raising post count.

Sorry, but I just couldn't resist :P

Anyway i'd reccomend a fan made by Papst, they are quiet, reliable and good.

And when buying a fan you should look at both the deciblecount and the CFM (iirc, cubic feet per minute). If you're after a heatsink i'd look for a Zalman or a thermalright SLK.

I already have myself a Thermalright heatsink. Now all I need is a nice case fan, and I'll look at the one's that have been suggested in the morning :)

giving your case ventilation is more important to get the temperature down, even the best air-cooler won't work half as good if its blowing hot air on the heatsink to disapate heat... Akasa do some great 80mm case fans, they are quiet and they get the job done... just make sure you equally balance it and get the fans facing the right way...

for example, if you have 2 case fans, one should be positioned at the front sucking cold air in to the case, and one should be at the back blowing hot air out of it.

If your motherboard does not have enough plugs to plug the fans in to, you can buy a fanbus, they are only cheap and let you plug up to 6 fans in, and control their speeds etc.

my believe I can have up to 4 case fans. Atleast that's all the mounts I have.

how do you have a SP-97 and a intel cpu? im guessing you have a SP-94.

well the only answer i can give you is that you have a prescott, and all of them run hotter than northwoods.

theres not much you can do about them. prescotts just get hotter. but their max temp is higher so you should be ok. unlesss you want to watercool. a fan isnt going to bring you down 10C+ ;)

Maybe I should have included that I don't want somthing that would brake the bank...

Water cooling systems are $200+, and I don't want to dish out that much after spending 300 on motherboard and CPU.

And I believe I have the SP-97.. It was the better or the two I know that

A vantec tornado...lol
Busting with noise and air.

Do you know the CFM and DBa of your 92mm Zalman fan?

I wanna know what the DBa is to know what you thought was too loud.
Then I could recommend a fan that would be quieter than that yet still provide enough CFM. I would suggest a 80mm fan for that heatsink.

Here is a good adjustable fan.

A full 48.7 CFM at 39.5 DBa. That is a pretty good air/noise ratio.

Remember, a 80mm fan is smaller and will force air down the fins and not allow the air to escape the easy way to the left/right side of the heatsink like a 92mm fan.
