I've been getting constant random reboots for almost 2 months. I had to uninstall my graphics driver to stop them.

Now, i need to know:

1. is it because of the GC?
2. Should i get a new one if it is?

thanks.

ASUS P4P800 SE, 512mb ram, 2.8ghz cpu, microsoft XP, AMI type BIOS

my psu says LPC-300ATX 12V P4 on the side

btw.

What's the gfx card? Your 300w psu might not be enough to power it, depending on what it is of course.

Also check to make sure everything is grounded right and there are no loose screws, and check up on your temps...

Nvidia GeForce FX 5700LE - mine

temps are fine.

no loose screws.

what's the recommended wattage psu, come to think of it, it surely wont be more than 300W. If its a crapper brand- the psu could be your problem.

it started 2 months ago, and i had that card for more than 6 months.

What, haven't you read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?

Anyways, if uninstalling your driver made it stop rebooting, then it most likely isn't any other hardware-related problem (heat temps/wattage/shorts/etc). I would venture to say that it was probably something you installed... on purpose or not...(see giant384's post) that causing conflicts. I would recommend trying to find a different driver (I don't remember what the options are for nVidia but I know there are ones besides the manufacturer's). Aside from that, a healthy reformat always fixes things like this, as obnoxious as doing that is.

thanks. i thought you were just making an unhelpful spammy comment.

perhaps i'll try to reformat.

btw, do you have to reinstall windows when you reformat?

Why, yes. Yes you do. That's one of the main purposes of a reformat. It's a fresh start.

I'd go and say drivers. Have you installing 71.89's?

Well, you were right :bounce:

The best way (in my opinion) to do a reformat is to do it while installing windows from the boot cd. Don't forget to back up all your data.... outlook mailbox if you use it, favorites, save game data, music/movies, pr0n, etc... you're going to have to reinstall all your apps, even if you have them installed on a separate partition.

Have you tried 73.00? Or 77.xx (though i think they dropped nv30 support)

Are you talking about the cards?

The drivers.

This sounds like software conflict to me.

So you've disabled automatic restarts and it doesn't flag up a BSOD and still restarts?

(If it's still doing it, check the properties of your card.. there should be a maximum core temp threshold, and check in the BIOS for the highest temp the computer will take before shutting off)

The best way (in MY opinion) would be to completely wipe the partition, recreate the partition, then format the drive.

this is about the same thing that i made a thread about many months ago....

you thought it was the PSU.

but, anyway, it doesn't seem to be the temps.

oh, and there is NO bsod, but it just reboots. :flame:

oh, and i gotta reformat so i will try that first than get a new card if must be.

btw, can i get a XP cd for free or do i need to buy it? I lost my copy.

Perhaps i will take it to the computer store so they can upgrade my comp to 1024mb of ram, reformat, ect.

i think u can order a cd from microsoft but do u have the cd key anywhere if u dont looks like u will be buying a new os
