ok i hear people saying that a radeon 9000 series wont work for halflife2 but that all i got. Will it do?? and if not what would be the best one for HalfLife2???

ps. css and hl2 dont have different requierments for video cards do they??

sorr about the spelling im dumb

By the way my comp has Window XP, Pentium(R) 4, 2.42 Ghz, and 512 MB of RAM .... is that all good for HL2 too??????

Oh ya and if i got DirectX 9 already on my comp(witch i do) does that meen that HL2 will work in the videocard department?????

1. you're not dumb. type your posts slower and spell check, you'll do fine.

2. your pc is good for hl2 except for the graphics card. something like a 9000 will run hl2 quite slowly. i recommend you get hold of the stress test somehow and try that to see how you do.

3. css should require lower spec since the levels are less complex and smaller.

The 9000 runs CSS just fine. Don't know who the hell you've been talking to.

You must have low standards. My 9800 PRo hardly runs it fine!

2600+ barton, 512MB PC4000 HyperX

I play @ 1280x1024 and 1024. Like 1024 better cuz i get better FPS.

Just for your info the radeon 9000 is not a DX9 card but a DX8.1 card. Its even slower than the radeon 8500 as it has the same specifications as the 8500 but only has half the texture units per pipeline! Performance on a radeon 9000 would be around 20-30% slower than the 8500 which is now a 3 year old card.

A 9800 pro would do nicely in that setup instead of the 9000...

Just because you have direct x 9 doesnt mean your card can use all the direct x 9 Features, youyr card is too old, i recomment a radeon 9800 if you have the money, or a radeon 9600 as your cheaper option , go to www.newegg.com they have the best prices ..

If your PC can't run HL2 on medium or low settings then I'm screwed.

Yeah, I'm sure it'll run just fine if you lower some of the settings. Just don't expect it to look as good or play as smooth as the videos you've seen.

ok.. if i got a better video card would it make it better?? and if it would what one would be the best one to buy???

ok that didnt sound right... is my video card the problem? if it is . what would be the best one to buy?

oh.. There are such wierd questions and answers in this thread :)

Like [w0f]Oblivion said, it's not because you have the DirextX9 app installed on your computer that you can run the game in DX9 mode. You card has to actually support DX9. The Radeon 9000 doesn't support DX9. It's a DX8.1 card. The problem is not on the DX part. There is not a huge difference between the visual quality in DX9 or DX8 mode. The problem is that the Radeon 9000 doesn't perform well at all in modern video games. Yes it will run HL2 but you'll have to lower the settings to get a playable framerate. You'll lose alot of the nice effects. So the problem is definatly the Vid card. The card that has the best ratio performance,quality/price is the Radeon 9800PRO. It's cheap, DX9 compatible and will run HL2 at high settings. It's also a very good overclocker. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-383R&depa=1

You could also add another 512MBs RAM. The levels will load faster, the transitions between the different parts of the game will be smoother.

Try to find a GeForce 4 TI series. They're still DX8 cards, but they perform considerably better than the low end stuff on the market today. You can find them for 50-60 bucks on eBay.

Yea I think it's better to buy a very good gfx card 180$ that will last 2-3yrs than buying a TI (wich are good but you'd have to play HL2 on medium settings with so so fps and you would barely be able to play the new games).

So, good choice and I can tell you'll have a great HL2 experience with that card :)

Hl2's recommended Gfx card is Dx9 compatible. Yours, I'm afraid, is only Dx8.1. You may have Dx9, but it doesn't mean your gfx card supports it and makes use of it. I have a 9600 SE and it runs perfect for a 2 year old card. But take advantage of the Christmas holidays and ask for a 9800 or something :P

Ooh, btw; You'll run at an ok-ish frame rate at low settings. But you won't make use of all the eye candy only available from a dx9 card, such as water reflexions, some textures etc. It just won't feel like Hl2 :sniper:

*EdiT* Oops, just noticed how many people actually told ya everything I typed. Sorry :smoking:
