Okay so im running in safe mode, getting rid of virsuses and such but now ive encountered a problem. I was suppose to make a back-up of my "regedit" and now i cant open control panel, any commands through the run menu...etc....because i edited a certain thing in a folder....is there absolutely anything i can do to replace the entry or something or download something to make it all work again?

That is why I warn people to stay away from their registry unless they know what they are doing. Most likely you will have to reinstall windows. If you are running Windows XP, I believe there is a repair function to reinstall windows itself without deleting any of your files. Before you do that, backup any important stuff onto CD-R's just in case.

in windows 2000//windows XP you can re-install windows over your old install without re-formating. you'll have to e-install all your programs (because their registry entries will be gone), but all your data wll stay there.

Insert your XP CD and reboot. After it boots from the CD and loads up all neccessary drivers, it should present you with a screen saying you already have an installation of Windows. There should be the choice of a "repair install," that's what you want to do.

Have you also tried System Restore. It's usually Level 1 of recovery unless it's bad enough to do a full re-install.
