Hi,
MY K8N Neo Platinum recently died, so I bought a friends old Soyo KT400 Dragon Ultra motherboard so I could stick my 2600+ in until i get a new pc, and he included an hsf with it similar to this

My problem is I idle at 48C-50C, havent tried load yet becuase I'm afraid to. I have arctic silver ceramique on the cpu.

What are some tips to get my temps down? My friend told me making a grocery bag "tube" from the hsf to a case fan blowing air out helps a few degrees. Anyone else have any suggetions?

EDIT: I'm borrowing a volcano 9 from a friend tomorrow, so hopefully that will help.

I wouldn't do that. Might improve things but... not a good fix. Bag comes off, covers fan / gets stuck in fan, that sort of thing. More fans, better fans, better case placement, etc are your best bets. If you really want to solve the problem for good get a huge case like an antec fileserver.

dunno about the 2600 but my p4 3.2 idles at 50 deg, 50 aint really that high at all, for real cooling buy a water cooling set, theyre fairly cheap now

My CPU idled in the low 40s when I had a volcano 9. I guess this HSF is just a POS.

I just downloaded CPU Idle and I idle at 37C now, but thats only idleing. The temps will skyrocket when I start a game.

I have air vented into my pc and over the hs/fan from outside of the house, since it is winter at the moment, my temps are very low. Although obviously, this is a little extreme and not everyone will be able to do this. Just make sure you have a decent supply of air going into and out of your pc, try to keep it balanced so there is the same coming in and going out. Your temps will go alot higher when playing games as your video card will produce alot more heat and will affect your overall temps. Try having a 80mm fan blowing over your video card, that will help. Also make sure all you wires in your pc are organised and tucked out of the way, this will improve air flow and stop any "hot spots"

How about buying a cheap airco, and putting it so that it s facing the fan of the PC that sucks air in, that should put your temp down a lot.
