take your time, while playing. BioShock has a hell of a lot of secrets all the way through. I'm around 4-5hours into the game and only taken down 3-4 big daddies. I'm going incredibly slow, but at the same time I'm discovering unique upgrades and abilties in hidden vents and rooms. The amount of scope this game has outside the main objective is insane. It really does give you a sense of been part of Rapture and even with the confined areas the element of exploration is insane.

So remember if your going to start playing, TAKE YOUR TIME!

I feel I am rushing to fast into it. :( I'm in Arcadia, only got 2 plasmid slots and on top of that only about 4 plasmids to choose from. Pretty sure I've got every weapon but the chemical thrower thingy. Need to slow dooowwwwn.

Yeah, taking your time is a very good idea, lots of cool stuff to find.

Well I trawled back to Medical Bay and took out the Big Daddy there. Lucky I just recently upgraded to having a shock affect on my body whenever an enemy makes physical contact. Bouncer rushed me, I was on my last bit of health, he was thrown back by the shock wave giving me just enough time to load up my last exploding buck and put the barrel of the weapon literally right next to his helmet.

Loving it!

Has anyone completed it? How long did it take? Were you rushing or going slow?

I am one of those people that likes games to last practically forever so it's pretty hard to justify $50 for 10-15 hours of entertainment right now, especially with everything I've already dedicated my wallet to these coming months (Orange Box, SSBB, etc.)

I bought the game on Tuesday and I finished it today. I took my time too.

Ok, 4 days, but that gives me no idea on how many hours you put into it. And what do you mean by took your time? To me, taking my time is wandering around looking at everything to be seen, reading everything to be read, using everything to be used.

I spent nearly 5 minutes in the demo exploring the water before even going inside, something that would take the average gamer less than a minute.

To be quite honest, there has been a few times now where I've actually felt overwhelmed by the amount of things to look at, so much so that I've just sped past it thinking to myself ''ah I'll come back later''

That, or generally running away from the strange noises and moving shadows behind me. :(

Well, hehe, I'm kinda of ashamed to say this but the first day I went from 4PM to 11PM straight. I had a bathroom break and dinner but that was aout it. I spent at least 20 hours I think in total. What I did was look for stuff all over the place. In fact there is a plasmid that will let you recheck hiding spots and you may find stuff again. Then there is the audio recordings. It's a very big game and you won't be dissapointed. Even the flamehaus members are saying it's good which is a rarity. *Also for the best and biggest HL2 fansite on the 'net, most of the members here are saying this game is better than HL2. IMO it is better but you have to find out for yourself.

As I said in another thread, I spent a good 6 hours going through the first two areas, and now I'm just backtracking through those areas to go and find all the goodies, and already about an hour ago I spent a good two hours just finding, plotting traps, gathering ammo/equipment and then taking on two Big Daddies.

hehe i had that feeling when i entered the medical pavillion, i was supposed to get a key off a certain doctor but never actually confronted the doctor for about 2 hours.

i went into every room, vent, tried to hack all the machines, looked behind every desk/door, read the poster, audio diaries, messages written in bood etc...the voiceovers of the splicers are really eerie, i generally walk slowly in areas just to take it all in and get the jump on them, i nearly shat myself when i picked up the shottie and you know what... eek...

fighting my first big daddy was amazing, it was in the med. pavillion AFAIR, i walked slowly around/behind him, trying to think of the best way to hurt him, i then went for it with my electrobolt plasmid and armor piercing rounds but damn they are tough, you cant run away from them it seems as they smash the ground with their fist/drill which stuns you, then they charge you...

Now you mention it, I haven't actually found that key to the dentists. :O Time to go back! Again!

:O

Yeah I want that key! Looked pretty much everywhere in th dental section but couldn't find it :hmph:

Let me know where it is via pm please ;)

The thing about the game is, if you're a hoarder (you don't spend dollars, you don't like to be short on medkits and eve hypos etc), you're going to miss a lot.

The brilliance of this game is that a bit of impulsiveness goes a long way. IF you choose to bypass that security camera and RPG turret, you're in for a treat.

I just got into arcadia and currently have 4 Plasmid Slots with 8 different Plasmids to choose from along with 2 slots in the others. Ontop of that I have around 3-4 plasmids for the lower end defense and hacking thingys. Like been able to loot extra money from bodies by searching them again or been able to hack quickly etc...

Oh and ontop of that I have a weapon upgrade for my machine gun, although it basiclly looks like someone has put a can of beans on it.

You guys seemed to have missed a hell of a lot of stuff.

I've got alot of stuff now. Three weapon upgrades (tommy gun, shotgun and grenade launcher), a good 7/8 plasmid attacks and about 3 of the other slots taken by health/hacking stuff.

how do you open up more slots for your plasmids/tonics etc, all mine are locked at 2 slots atm, when/how do you unlock more?

Harvesting or saving Little Sisters gives you ADAM, and ADAM is used as a currency at those Gatherers Garden machines. Find one of them and for a 100 ADAM you can open a new slot, and then for 80 ADAM you can buy new plasmid attacks, etc. The GG stations offer better stuff the further you get. I completly forgot at first I actually had this sort of money on me so for a while I was with just 2 slots. Got five open now (max)

I'm in Fort Frolic right now. Creepy stuff. Just went into one of the bathrooms and saw three lady cement statues all posed against a flickering light casting some shit scary shadows. High tailed it outta there.

I played CS:S from 4pm to 4am yesterday/today. 20 hours is not much game to me, which is why I've shifted from console RPGs to PC multiplayers. :p

Eh I guess you guys convinced me to get it. Sounds like too much fun.

Ya seriously i think this game is like 40 hours if you take your time and look.

I'm in Hepesutheueiruethe or whatever it's called now, heading down to the core. But 40 hours? That's crazy. I've been playing about 8 or so now and I've explored everywhere except for a few shops in Fort Frolic and the dentists surgery back at Medical.

i'm in Arcadia atm, omfg at the hudini(sp?) splicer intro, jesus christ, when i went up to the little table with the mask in the first building, then heard a breathing sound and turned around and he was standing there in my face, LITERALLY in my face, not like a few feet away, right on top of me, **** it was scary, second time its happened to me.

first was in the dentists section after i had taken items from a table also, i turned around and a splicer was standing motionless in my face, then swung at me, really frightening.

I ruined the Houdini Splicer intro. I followed him into the upstairs part but I wandered around every part of the room EXCEPT the wicker leaf mask, so I just accidentially walked him him and then had a fight involving my shotgun and a few Incinerate plasmids. It was about half an hour later when I came across the mask. :(

However...

... the concrete Splicers in Fort Frolic shit me up right proper. The part where you go into the basement, and theres that one sitting in the corner under the flickering lamp, then you go over to the Power to the People weapon upgrade system, upgrade a weapon and turn around to find a concrete stature that WASN'T THERE A FEW SECONDS AGO standing about a metre away from you, motionless, then BLARGH! ****ing Spider Splicer right up in mah face mo'****a!

Luckily I had my shotgun out. With exploding buck. Yeah, I won. But regardless, I left that shop with my chemical thrower just paving a pathway of napalm in case more came. As I was leaving the store, at a safe distance, another appeared, just shambling out the entrance in a really stiff and rigid way. Love the way that they actually changed the animation to cater the fact this Splicer was half cemented over, half free from it's captivity. Really scary seeing it wobble towards me slowly. Like a bad stop animation.

The houdini splicer scared me so badly first time around. This whole game has been incredible so far... got kinda a weird effect of drawing you in so you cant put it down.

BTW, I've just finished Arcadia (after visiting the market). How far am I in the game (I dread the time when the game ends).

I got to Fort Frolic with about 15 hours of gameplay. Trust me i didnt die or get lost at all. Very few times.

I'm at 12.8 hours played (Steam community says so) and I just got to Fort Frolic.

Didn't know the community thing told ya time played... neato. And I guess I finished the whole thing in 11.1 hours... slow pokes. :p (And I'd be surprised if I missed much, if anything!)

Part of it is that I'm playing on hard and I'm using a lot of ammo/first aid. So I must search every corner and hidden room to get more resources.

I don't really know why but I have not played much at a time. Just 1 level per sitting really. I'm not stopping so I savor it, at least not intentionally. Maybe it's because the game is so heavy on atmosphere? that I have to take a break. idk
I generally don't play my games like this.

I like when you get in the later parts of the game, they play dead. So you walk up to the body and it gets up and hits you, lol!

Just started playing today and I'm taking my time, opening everything that can be opened and enjoying the scenery :D

I did something stupid though; I exchange telekenesis for my electro-bolt instead of the fire one...hope to find a bank soon and get electro-bolt back :|

I always beat the shit out of corpses with teh wrench to be sure, if not that I always have the shotgun out around 'em. Face full of buckshot the second they sit up. :D

Electro bolt was probably my most used plasmid. Perfect for stopping an enemy dead in it's tracks whilst you reload - pretty much works fantastically against anything, esp. turrets and cameras for all those times you can't be bothered to hack.

Same for me on both accounts.

9.7 hours in, about 5 minutes ago, the game crashed so I'm calling it a night. Was somewhere in Arcadia trying to cover the map. Not sure if I want to start that again. -_-'

Awesome game so far, but it lags on occasion, or loses frames or something.

I spent two and a half hours straight in the first level (Medical Bay?). ****ing amazing game. I checked everything.

One thing that really surprised me was how difficult a decision it is to save or harvest a Little Sister. I went in thinking "Okay, I'll just walk over, harvest her, and that's that." Then the cutscene plays through, and hearing that man and woman arguing each option got me thinking, "If I save them, then they don't have to die... but if I harvest them, isn't that just putting an end to their misery? But if I save them then they can be free to live a normal-as-possible life. Although, the more ADAM I get, the more able I am to save even more Little Sisters..."

I think I spent two minutes standing in front of the girl before I made my decision. And with all that moral debate, coupled with the music... saving the girl made me tear up a bit >_>
