They make a Keyboard and Mouse for it. You cant play games like CoD3, GoW with a pad, the aiming will never be as good

aren't any usb keyboards and mice compatible with the 360? the problem I would imagine is that game developers don't add in support

Boo hoo. It's a games console for christs sake. Just use the pad.

Yeah he's right, you can use any usb mouse and keyboard. Just need something to support it.

I hate playing FPS games with controllers. I suck at aiming with them.

Certain Xbox Live subscribers got an e-mail today asking for their participation in a super long survey earlier today. It asked participants how interested they were in certain first party accessories and Live features.

The most interesting excerpts:

* How interested would you be in buying an Xbox 360 branded mini-keyboard plug-in device for your controller to make text messaging and chat easier, assuming it would cost between $19-$29?
* Paying per song (~$0.99/song) to download music to your Xbox 360 hard drive from a music service. You would be able to use this service while playing a game.
* Paying a subscription per month (~$14.99/mo) to stream any and all music to your Xbox360 from a library of over 2 Million songs. You would be able to use this service while playing a game.
* Paying per video (~$19.99/movie, $1.99/TV show) to download standard definition full movies and TV shows to your Xbox360 hard drive
* Renting movies (~$3.99/movie) that are downloaded in standard definition to your Xbox 360 until you watch them and then are deleted
* Paying a subscription per month (~$5.99/mo) to access 10-20 internet radio stations streamed to your Xbox 360. You would be able to use this service while playing a game.
* How interested would you be in using an integrated Xbox 360 Web browser that would allow you to access and browse the Internet over your Xbox Live connection?
* How interested would you be in participating in beta tests for upcoming games if they cost an additional incremental fee?

Thanks to XanTium for providing this news.

It looks like the keyboard and mouse fanboys are out of luck but never say never. Remember the joyfrag for the xbox?

F*ck it. If the games kick-ass, I'll adjust.

(Normally I much prefer FPS on PC with KB/M, but see above statement.)

Well i feel strong about this. Being a hardcore FPS fan, i want to play the 360 titles like they are meant to be played. A joypad is find for 3rd persons, driving and adventure games. But games like BioShock, Cod£ need a system where u can am much more accuratly.

It affects gameplay much more than u think. For example, it take alot less time to do a full turn using a mouse than it does using the joyapd. OK u can adjust the spped settings but then aiming would be way too hard

To be fair, it's not that hard to aim with a controller at all, if you were a "Hardcore FPS" fan, then you should be able to play them efficiently no matter what your using.

Thats not true, the mosue and keyboard are the only tools are true FPS gamer would use. plug in a PS2 pad on your PC and play HL2 with it, see the difference??

mouse/keyboard for xbox360 will never be made by microsoft ..they're going out of their way to make xbox360 accessories work on pcs why would they want to do it in reverse? that would be shooting themselves in the foot ...microsoft has no interest and game developers will never create games that support a product that doesnt exist

Aren't they "meant" to be played with a controller in the first place? Most are designed around it.

Ehm, fps games for consoles are made with the controller in mind. So they 'are meant to be played' with a controller. I'll see you play metroid with a mouse.

Also, I'm a big FPS fan too, and I don't see a problem with aiming with a controller.

I think we should have a choice as gamers. Like the Wii, u can choose to use the wii mote or plug in a GC controller.

Thats not true, a "true FPS Gamer" as you put it, would be happy with what he has been given, as long as he gets the experience and enjoyment out of the game he's playing there should be no problem.

So if i was given a sausage....? I dont think u understand where im comin from. FPS require fast reflexes and precision aiming to get the most outta them, now to get the most of them i need a mouse and keyboard. Doesnt matter how good the gfx, sound and gameplay are, without the correct tools ill never ge the most out of it.

Pc games require that. Not console games. Have you actually ever played one?

Btw, I can play just fine with my sausage.

Brick leave your sausage out of this debate dammit! :cheese:

Elrasho, quit whining, console games are meant to be played with a controller, end of discussion.

Ive played cod2 and found it very tedious with the 360 controller. i couldnt do the "peep out the corner and shoot" coz the controller was so unrisponsive. I stick with my argument, if they make FPS for consoles then make them joypad freindly or some1 makle a patch that lets the 360 recognise a keyboard and mouse

Meant to be played? What, FPS's dumbed down so that you can use a mouse to get incredibly accurate aiming on weapons that... wouldn't have incredibly accurate aiming?

I don't know about you, but in a world outside of gaming, I can turn around pretty quick. Almost as fast as I can turn someone around with a controller, actually! With a mouse, well, my apparant realistic character kinda locks up and takes a few side steps to face the other way.

if you want to play games using mouse + keyboard play PC games

OK this is a little ridiculous
a keyboard and mouse are gaming peripherals and deserve to be supported on consoles - end of discussion
to limit consoles to a controller is a ridiculous argument when they support light guns, steering wheels, joysticks, motion detectors, touchscreen etc etc.
Elrasho has a good point - if a game particularly a FPS is designed for a console why should it not support the consumer's input mode of choice

Thus why PC remains the best platform for the FPS genre.

But the 360 has so many games that aren't FPS's.

But as others have said, when they make an FPS for console they bare in mind that we are going to be using a controller, therefor they make it as easy as they can for the user to "aim" or move around, if others have a seriously problem for whatever the reason maybe they should stick to PC ...

I say nay!

fps are fine with a pad if you can control your thumbs and 3rd person shooters are better. Yes, they are better!

Get a normal Microsoft USB keyboard and Mouse, plug it in. You now have a Xbox360 PC

Using a joypad in an FPS game doesn't put you at a disadvantage when everyone else is using the same joypad as you. :|

Goldeneye is awesome on the N64, as is Perfect Dark.

Halo, Timesplitters, etc. are all awesome on the XBOX.

My friend, you just ****ing suck at console shooters.

The whole point of a console is that you can sit on the sofa with your mates and play games on the TV. I pity fools that play consoles at their computer desks. IT'S WRONG, GET A F***ING CLUE.

What lePobz said makes sense...
But I agree with elrasho that aiming in FPSs with a pad can often be annoying because it may be too responsive/not responsive enough and you keep having to correct your aim. I thought a keyboard and mouse would be way easier.
But, I kept playing, got better at it, and decided I didn't need a mouse after all. Just have to get used to it.

Still, it would definitely be nice to be able to use your 360 like a PC for a few FPS games that your real PC can't run, and use it like a console for the rest.

Some fps are better with a pad, period. The slower paced the game, the better suited it usually is. Golden Eye, still widely regarded as one of the best fps there has been, would have been crap with a mouse and keyboard. I'd argue the same for Halo.

A mouse is certainly quicker and allows for more precise aiming, nobody disagrees here. While all good for games that actually need this type of twitch shooting (Quake 3 being a good example), the pace and difficulty of many fps makes using a pad is just fine (HL2 certainly doesn't need or benefit from mouse control imo). Infact, in some games, having to actually stop and slowly take aim can make the experience that much more fun. It isn't a bad thing to make the act of aiming a challenge - which is why nailing a headshot in Golden Eye is that much more satisfying that getting one in, say, Far Cry (which, being a slow game, can often be as easy as opening a folder in windows). Think how you'd aim a pistol in real life if you were trying to track a movng target - using a pad recreates this sense of concentration and carefully following the target considerably better than a mouse does. Then there's the benefits that analogue movement ( > keyboard), rumble, and trigger buttons can bring to immersion.

I'm not arguing that either method is better than the other - some fps are absolutely horrible with a pad - just that easier and faster aiming doesn't equal better, it all depends on the game in question.

Most people you hear moaning about using a pad with fps are pc gamers who are simply not very good with them. Bad workmen ....
