Just got back from seeing it and I have to say that I was presently surprised. It was well acted, had great visuals and was all around good fun. I enjoyed it more then spiderman 2 and am probably the only one alive to do so.

I give it a 8.5/10. :D
Definitely worth my money.

What did you all think.

/EDIT: Also I never read the book, so I had nothing to compare it to,srry.

/EDIT: Ohh 666 posts, is this a sign that this film will lead to the apocalypse, I think so. :flame:

Thats definately good to hear. I have been looking forward to this movie and it made me sad when I saw my local paper give it a one star rating. Although I really couldn't take it seriously when the reviewer didn't actually say what he didn't like about the movie aside from how much he hated Will Smith's character.

I'm going to see I, Robot tonight. Assuming that a monsoon thunderstorm doesn't knock out power.

I just can't get over how the butchered Asimov's book. I mean, he wrote I, Robot to get past the traditional, stereotypical 'robot goes crazy, kills creators' story. He set out to write something more original than that. And he was successful. When it comes time to make the movie, they just chuck all that out the door. They return to the same easy-route, 'check your brain at the door' approach for the movie.

They shouldn't have called it I Robot.

EDIT: Plus the robot designs are ugly as sin.

Not seen it yet, don't even think its out here yet, seen the trailer though and the storyline is my cuppa tea.

It kinda reminds me of the first chapter of the matrix story (shown in the animatrix) and it's a concievable future (robots of course, not the rebellion... altho if microsoft write their operating systems, who knows!).

Have you seen it? Cause the Robots don't just go crazy and kill their creators, theres more to it then that. Maybe not to the extent of Asimov's novel, but its not as low as you make it sound. :)

So what type of movie is this exactly...I know it's sci fi, but is it thought-provoking? is it dark? a lot of action? mindless visual candy? and don't just says "oh, it's a mixture", because SOMETHING must stand out more than the others. The impression I got from the trailer was that it was just another brainless sci-fi action movie.

I just got back from it. I love the movie. All of you should go see it.

You can't trust critics when it comes to sci-fi, they just don't get it.

The movie wasnt based on the book. They started the movie even before they knew their was a book. And the movie was under a diff title.

Really? Man, I'll have to try that.

*renames current work-in-progress to "Star Wars: Generic Conflict"*

"Before they knew their was a book"? You mean they started filming it before they decided to base it off Asimov's work?

Interesting how there's so many mixed reviews. I'd make up my own mind, but if its awful it will sear my retina's sealed and that may be too great a sacrifice to make.

It's not even based on Asimov's book at all - it merely borrows the title to exploit it for marketing... from what I know, the story and screenplay was written independently, from scratch... then they somehow learned about Asimov's book, I guess, and decided to add/rewrite some elements of the movie and name it "I, Robot" (it originally had a completely different working title). So this explains what we all already know: that the movie has very little to do with the book.

Im trying to find the link where i got this

Glad to hear you were pleasantly surprised. I might have to go see it now :)

It's fun being ignored. :|

/addignore KagePrototype ;)

And I can't believe Brinkts is telling us a Will Smith movie is worth watching, it's just out of this world.

Yeah, that's one of the main reaons I'm hesitant at seeing this movie, purely because Will Smith is in it.

Wow I thought that that mvie would be crapy. Im surprised.

Saw the movie and I thought it was very good. It had the usual funny Will Smith remarks throughout it. Action was very good.

Question about movie *********SPOILER DO NOT READ IF YOU WANT PORTION OF STORY RUINED********************

How exactly did Will lose his left arm? When he tells the story of the accident how he did lose his arm and hate robots he says that the cars were moving very fast and when they collided the metal melted together and they got stuck. Next part it shows them underwater but it never explains like if there was some huge accident afterwards or something because I remember Will was looking through the left window at the girl next to him and there was nothing wrong with his side of the car...

Is this "Bad Boys" Will Smith, or "Enemy Of The State" Will Smith?

Someone describe this movie to me already!

Ok, how do I put this. Its a brainless sci-fi action film with substance. Meaning the plot is easy to follow, yet interesting and you care enough about the characters to continue watching. Theres a lot of action and the sgi was pretty convincing( yet not overused).

Ya, he's certainly created a ugly line of films these last few years, hasn't he? With that said I still think he's a good actor. I'm usually dissapointed with the writing not his performance.

Here's my sum up reveiw of it:

Acting = Good.
Actors = Bad. (Will SMith was wayyy too cocky and obnoxious, it got on my nerves)
Story = So-So.
Special Effects = What make it all worth while to see.

B+

The best would be Independence Day Will Smith. :D That movie rocked.

 I thought the movie was good. There were some things in it that I think they took from Ghost in the Shell. I'd say it was well worth the money I spent on it.

I loved the whole Converse jokes. "Vintage 2004". Or the thing with the motorbike "This thing runs on gas, it could explode!".

He said vintage 2004 because they were the new edition leather chucks... not the old school cloth ones

:hmph: I thought it was vintage 2004, because it seems to be the "cool" thing to be wearing these Chucks, you didn't see these things pop around crazy a couple years back. I thought they were making a joke, because 2004 quite a lot of people have them.

I might see it this weekend. I hope. It may not be like the book, but come on, a movie about robots!!

For some odd reason I can never see your avatar 63, it just says six three's avatar.

That makes sense, and could just as easily be it. I just thought he said it because of the new edition ones.

But yes, that's funnier and I'll shut up because I know alot of "cool" people who like to judge everything (especially music) and think they're so artsy and badass who wear them. I wear them because I always have and they're a good, reliable shoe. Elitist bastards! :D

I just saw the new trailers on apple.com, looks pretty good actually. I just hope Smith doesn't throw too many one liners during fights.

I suppose it won't be too bad (I actually really like Will Smith), but I think a movie that was straight-out based upon the book would ROCK!

Imagine the story "Runaround" in modern cinematic and special-effects terms? Or that story about Cutie, the psychic robot? Even that story about Robbie (I think that was his name) would be good, it was just so endearing.

Actually, come to think of it, I think one of those stories comes from "Robot Dreams"...

I saw it last night. Rating = 3.5 stars (out of 5)

- Will Smith ruined the movie in my opinion. This movie needed an actor who does drama, not an actor who gets by on his charisma.
- Character interaction was waayyyy toooo predictable.
- CG were amazing. One of the scences I knew was CG, but actually looked realistic.
- Great action scenes
- Character development was very limited in this movie. I know they are trying to keep it a Hollywood blockbuster, but come on, I like to see some depth in this movie.

Basically, the movie had a lot of fluff, but no depth in it. Better than what I expected from a major summer movie release.

Im sure its just a plain ol' fun movie, the movie i look forward to is "The village". i cant wait!!

Me too. The village looks like a great movie.

I'll probably see I, Robot, but I'm none to excited about it. Too much of an Asimov fan.

Saw it today, and I enjoyed it.

I really loved the CG, very nice.
Acting was so-so but I don't care, I went for the action.
