In most stores, yes. I don't think there should be a law preventing people under 18 to buy M rated games. And if there is, then there should be a law preventing people under 18 to buy R-rated movies and "Parental Advisory" CDs. Fortunately, the crazy, sandy vagina'd soccer moms haven't TOTALLY gotten rid of the 1st amendment yet.

The above applies to the USA. I have no idea how Europe deals with that stuff.

Anyway, im grounded for getting drunk on saturday so i cant play videogames or be on the computer (heh, my mom aint home right now) so i cant play GTA:SA for awhile...o well.

But i think ill be unreserving my copy of EQ2 and put all that towards SA , because monthly fees and all is a bigger commitment then GTA:SA and i dont have a job so... But i still might get EQ2 after ive seen some more videos and stuff for it cause ive heard alot of good and bad about EQ2. (im undecided right now it seems)

But GTA:SA looks like tons-o-fun. So ill get it.

EDIT: Im grounded past nov 16 so i cant play HL2 on its release either....hopefully i can convince my mom tho, cause ive been waiting for a year.

My Dad wouldn't let me get GTA:3, he is fine with me playing ANY game except GTA:3, I blame the media coverage. But he did make some good points, everything you do is illegal and you jsut play a criminal. It is hard to agree with you but you make a good point. Do you mean to say that minors shouldn't play M games because they can't handle the content or because what they might do would look bad for games?

a few days ago i agreed with u and suggested u start a topic on this very issue and here it is again..
parents contradict themselves so much on this issue in particular... they go out and buy GTA:SA and then turn around and want games banned which suggest sexual innuendo, violence and drugs.. now which should it be?

As for minors buying M games, I'm kinda split on the topic. I mean, I've seen 10 year olds play Vice City before, and I was kinda disgusted by it. The kid is freakin' ten and he is blowing the living hell out of some dude walking across his screen just for the pure pleasure of it. But, on the other hand, I don't understand why people think that after the age of 18 people suddenly become super mature adults. It's easy to argue that there are kids out there around 14-17 years of age who could potentially be more mature and more "mentally ready" for these M rated games than some other 18+ year olds.

i am not gonna argue this point with u because i understand ur arguement and to a certain extent i agree with it.

my point is simple.
parent buys GTA:SA for kid
then parent turns around and registers a complaint with the censor board about said game citing sexual innuendo, violence, drugs.. pretty much the works.

now tell me, how does a parent's arguement in this scenario make any sense? especially since the game has an M rating.

i completely understand what your saying and i agree somewhat, but nothings coming between me and san andreas

forgetting that for a second, i think that maturity is the issue here (as bait mentioned) rather than age. i mean, at school im of the mature, "g33ky" kind- i look down on all of those alloying Trevs who run around with baseball cas on, not doing homework because they think its "cool". and those are the people who shouldnt be allowed to play mature videogames- they think its "cool" to run around shooting people in Vice city- and while its true that they wouldnt actually do that if they had the chance (well, most of them anyway...), its still putting bad things into their easily predictable minds.

on the other hand, ive been playing mature games scince i was 10. i got my mum to buy me Tenchu 2 for the PS1, and thats because i borrowed it and showed her that it was completely fine. after all, tenchu does have a lot of blood... but at the time i ignored that and was engrossed by the ninja storyline and the stealth gameplay. in fact, thats wehen i was intrgued my japanese culture for the first time (i love ancient japan ) because i was amazed by their buildings and the peasants' way of life. plus the ninjas were just so damn kewl. the fact that it was an 18 had no impact on me whatsoever- i overlooked the blood and gore completely (at the age of 10), while other 15 - 20 year olds may have been completely entranced by the brutal decapitations.

another thing- im sure LOADS of people here are intelligent, mature and under the age of 15. but would you say theyre not allowed to buy HL2, which im sure will be a 15? i mean this is the most anticipated game ever and many people wiont be able to purchase it because you "shoot aliens".



but just to say- i think its PERFECTLY fine for a minor to buy a mature game, as long as the parent if fully aware of (1) the games content, (2) the rating, and (3) they trust their child completely and dont mind them playing it. but of course, this only applies if theyre a responsible parent

and about shooting the games industry in the foot: if there IS murder commited by a minor who possesses a mature game, it is most likely this minor wont have a responsible parent and / or wont listen to anyone. and these type of people will ALLWAYS get their hands on a copy of a mature game SOMEHOW. which just leaves all the mature, but law abiding (presuming all the mature minors stop buying rated games), to miss out on the fun because they dont want to harm the gaming industry. then the little immature brat who got a copy of the game commits a murder, and suddenly all the mature kids are suddenly being hassled not to buy any game at all, and laywers join forces to destroy developers everywhere.

*EDIT* cptstern, can i just ask you... if you were 17 years old (or 15 or whatever) and you lived with your parents, and your parents OFFERED to buy the game for you, are you saying you would NOT accept their offer for GTA:san andreas simply because (dispite your maturity) you were underage? Talking about age limits. I'm 16 and I know I won't be bothered by anything in the game, because I haven't been bothered or anything by previous 18 games and gta's. It's just that when it comes to buying, I can't buy them alone. So what to do? Order it through the internet from a store here in Finland and pay it at the post office. This way you can go around the limits.

Don't know if you can do this in other countires, but I guess so. Only thing that's bad is that you get about 6€ higher price. They've lowered the prices though, so they cost about the same they cost some time ago at the store.

I am 14, but i am not of those people who dosent give a shit about their homework.
I can play most mature games, but someone i am not allowed to, like manhunt, but i dont really want to play games like that anyway, so i dont fight with my parents about that.
And i dont have any friends that are 14 years old, most of my friends are 15-16 and some even over 20.
And the reason i dont have any friends that are 14 is that, they akt like they are 10 years old.
They still think its fun with piss and shit.

manhunt is an example of a game that IMO shouldnt be bought by anyone. i mean it doesnt have very decent gameplay- its solely created to kill people in horrific ways. whast the point? youre a guy thats filmed to beat people up. its the classic example of a game that kids buy because they think its "cool" to kill people.

People think that 15 year olds like me will go on a mad killing spree because we played it. I find this exremely annoying and its very stereotypical. Ive played all the GTA games and im fine, I hav'nt killed anyone yet

However, there are limits to what games I would play. I have never played Manhunt for example. It looks gory, stupid and way too violent.

TBH, kids play violent games. Fact. I understand that adults are quite annoyed by this but whining on a forum doesnt solve the problem. And its not like I wanna go and play Shark Tale is it? Leave that to thr 7 year olds.
