I currently have..:
2.8 P4 OC'd to 3.0 Ghz
2 gigs of DDR ram *not dual channel*
X800GTO *Not sure..I think it might be 128 meg...don't remember*

I want to get a PCI-E board, with Dual Channel support, a different video card, PCI-E obviously...maybe thinking about going over to Nvidia..don't know what's good though. Benchmarks aren't helping any. Then I want to get Dual Channel ram. Any help with experienced people on this would be great. Also want to go with AMD this time around. I hate them to death, but I figured...give them the BIG benefit of the doubt, and go with it. Working in a computer repair shop..you see alot of blown processors and capaciters on AMD boards :( Good luck to me with that one.

I DO ALSO want a new RX-7 :( But oh well, I guess I'll see what happens.

MSI NX6800GS-TD256E Lite Geforce 6800GS 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail - $188.00

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 1GHz HT Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3200BPBOX - Retail - $166.00

Total - $449.69

I had some Dual Channel ram, 2 gigs of it, but that put it at $613 after shipping, and I really don't want to spend 3/4's of my saved money as of right now. Really I shouldn't be spending it, but I'm as bad as a woman..when I'm depressed, I spend money :(

I'd stick with what you've got for the moment. That's not a bad setup by any means. Stick with it for a little longer, wait for AM2, vista, DX10 to come around, and then think about upgrading. Maybe OC your P4 a little further, should be able to get 3.4 out of it, would make a difference.

I was actually going for a rather cheap upgrade. I was gonna try to end up either giving most of my parts to my Roomate for his Bday, or selling off my parts. So If I get it all sold off, then I would have all in all not spend more than $200 on all of it.

But this thread became worthless when I looked at my bank account and realized, SOMEHOW I had $500 from 1 grand. I gotta get a statement and find out wtf happened.

If you're still thinking of getting a 6800, then i'd suggest going for a GT.

They can easily be overclocked to reach above GS speeds, but have a lot more pipelines available -- which is good!
