I don't have a DVD drive so i preloaded hl2 through steam thinking i could put my CD key in when i bought retail and play as soon as it unlocked it because the shops around my area were only getting the DVD edition. But it said i needed to put my DVD in after i put the cd key in... so i got my friend who has a DVD drive to use my account and put my cd key in... so steam registered my cd key to my account no problem, its in the games list and everything.
But then when i click on the hl2 icon it tells me i need to put the DVD in again? So is there anyway that i can play the game without the DVD cos i'm poor and can't afford one lol.

edit: would backing up the files on to CDs work?
