Put into action.
There are many great threads have been closed cause some members got outside the thread’s topic and start flaming each other.

What I am asking is, is it possible to implement a new MOD features which control our way of discussion?

To make clear, a member start a flame war in a cool thread where 1000 friendly members are in conflict to convince each other that their idea is the coolest. Without delay a mod close the thread and the 1000 members feel aggravated by that single member who start flaming and let their unfinished conversation get hacked by his/her rage.

I propose to apply a single feature to ban the member/s that start flaming at that specific thread (LOCK his/her account at that thread only) and allow other members to continue with their friendly ideas without any interruption and closing the entire thread.

I hop its clear enough to understand what I m trying to say. :stare:

i getcha, and thats a pretty cool idea. dunno how it would work though, banning just one thread from a person, whilst they can see the rest of them. [i take it this is because of ¿¿¿¿¿ in that hl2/d3 poll thread ;)]

You are perfectly right.

;)

That's an interesting idea...

I've moved this to the right forum and I'll let Munro know.

We'll try to search for a hack for this, but if anyone knows something like this already, if they could show us we'd appreciate it. No promises that we can implement it, though.

I assume that was EvilEwok again? Pesky little bugger if it was

Anyhow, this does sound like a great idea, G0rgon

It's a good idea in theory, but you'd still get the following happening

user1 starts a thread

user2-9 reply, thread going as normal

user10 says something others don't like

users1-9 attack him

thread becomes a flame thread

user10 is banned from thread

user5 decides he's not had his say yet, and replies to user10, user10 doesn't have a chance to reply back to it

user10 starts a new thread to complain

new thread is locked

user12 turns up, see's the old flame, says something and sets it off again, user12 ends up banned also

Would be easier were we to just make a rule where we delete all offtopic posts or pointless posts within a thread (not including the offtopic section)

True that would often still happen, but every situation is different and its always good to have the option. After all, often it really is only one person who is causing the trouble.

What happened to user 11? Poor guy disappeared :(

Of course that even that all off-topic posts were deleted, some flames could still pass through

i.e. the posts from (???? upside down), although flames but still on-topic, would still be allowed.

I don't want to see this at all, it's just fiddly, and deleting off-topic posts is a bit extreme.

Something needs to be done about the amount of threads that deteriorate into flame wars though. I know it's inevitable in every forum, but it'd be nicer if we didn't give that a chance to happen here.

Not gonna happen :)

We'll try and remove any excessive flaming and abuse from threads but if users flame in a thread they usually deserve a global forum ban anyway.

This sounds like a perfect use of Badger's Arena.... but perhaps a whole forum for it, not jsut a thread :)
