But I have a few questions. I'm sick of all the wires in my room, and I figured I'd start by getting rid of the damn cable wire. Here we go:

1. What do I need to setup a wireless connection for both my internet, my online gaming, my wii, and my ps3? does it all feed off the same equipment?

2. Will I still need a cable modem?

3. Is there a way to have wireless cable tv? Ya know, without the giant wires?

Thanks in advance, but I'm a complete noob with this stuff.

No you don't.

Trust me, unless you're on a laptop, going wireless is really worth none of the trouble.

Wireless is shit. If I had it my way there'd be two huge Ethernet cables running from my PC and Xbox 360 on the second floor all the way down to the router on the main floor.

^Agreed, I have wireless, It is deffently not worth the trouble.

Oh...well in that case, thanks lol.

I agree. I got mine yesterday, and today I couldn't even get connected. I had to switch back to Speedtouch because I got stressed >:(

I have wireless running of my moms computer, don't get it unless you need to. Lots of problems, might just be me though. I guess you cant host servers, I found out today, because I wanted to have a hl2dm server for me and my maps but can't now. :( So if you have wired, stay wired.

I've got wireless, had it for the past 5 or 6 years through a variety of routers. It's absolutely simple to set up and secure. My 360, Wii, mobile phone, and most of the PCs in my house use my wireless connection... no problems whatsoever.

Obviously, if you have trouble telling routers and toasters apart, you should probably stay away ... but seriously, it's not complicated at all.

To answer your questions ... If your cable modem has an ethernet connection, all you need is a wireless router. If your modem is USB only, you'll need a cable/DSL broadband wireless router.

All you need for your PCs is wireless cards or USB wireless dongles. The Wii has wireless integrated, as does the PS3 (I think?)

As for cable TV ... no.

Wireless = unstable. sometimes the connection will just die for no apparent reason. some days it wont connect. others it will be fine.

oh you also suffer hugely on transfer and download rates etc. BUT if you just want simple bband access from a laptop anywhere in the house (ie no gaming or big downloads) then wireless is a nice way to go.

id stay clear of it though personally, even though back at home my parents insisted on getting wireless.

Wireless. Because nitrogen in the air is a better medium than copper wire.

Well waves travelling through copper would be flawed. If it was electricity I would have agreed though.

With regard to Pobz comment - I'm on your side, I've used wireless for the past 2 years now, on my desktop & laptop now. No problems, fast and mobile. The technology is great assuming you buy well and know what you are doing.

Wireless is great, just don't cheap out on it or it'll cheap out on you.

Having wireless when you don't want to be tied down is great. It's advantages far out weigh any disadvantage then. And it's performance is fine for those kind of things.

Or if you don't have the place wired, it might be cheaper to setup wireless instead of having someone run cables in the walls.

Although going wireless just to be wireless doesn't make sense to me. There are extra things to have setup and it is less secure and stable than wired. With wired you know it's plugged in and works. If something goes wrong it's easy to rule out the wire from the PC/net by just swapping the wire out. And it's faster and you know you are making the most of your Net connection without extra latency (mainly for fps games, not downloads). There is no radio frequency to tap into like with wireless networking (wireless encryption is just a minor block).
