Oil pulling or oil swishing, in alternative medicine, is a traditional Indian folk remedy that involves swishing oil in the mouth for claimed oral and systemic health benefits. It is mentioned in the Ayurvedic text Charaka Samhita where it is called Kavala Gandoosha / Kavala Graha.[1] It is also used to reduce enamel wear from stomach acid from vomiting.[citation needed] According to one study on "the effect of oil-pulling on the reduction of total count of bacteria": "there was a remarkable reduction in the total count of bacteria.[2] The process of oil-pulling reduced the susceptibility of a host to dental caries."[3]

In a controlled study the effect of pulling sesame oil was found to be equivalent to the mouthwash chlorhexidine in its reduction of dental plaque and modified gingival index scores. [4]

Now, I know what you're thinking - "that sounds f**king gross" - and believe me, it is. But you get used to it, and it really does work. I've been doing it for just over a week now with olive oil, and once I got past the taste and the desire to gag and vomit, I noticed that my gums are healthier than they've ever been in my life, a better effect than twice-daily brushing and regular flossing has ever had. My teeth are whiter, my sinus is less congested, my toothache has disappeared completely, and my eyes don't feel strained. And the most interesting thing is that I quit smoking weed the same day I started oil pulling, and I haven't had a single withdrawal effect. No sleepless nights, no cold sweats, no headaches, no cravings. Nothing. I feel great. The last time I tried to quit toking, I couldn't sleep at all, and I felt like absolute shit for a week until I started again.

I highly recommend you give this a try. But make sure you DO NOT USE CANOLA OIL, because it can **** up your heart (and canola in general is pretty bad for you). Olive oil is the best, but sunflower and sesame will also work. Just make sure you research the brand to make sure it's actual olive/whatever oil, because many companies sell mislabeled oils which usually contain canola.

Interesting, but it doesn't seem likely that it cures every one of the things you, or the authors of the Wikipedia article for that matter, claim it does. I'm not saying I'm writing this whole thing off as a placebo, but you'll understand if I find myself skeptical that it cures the laundry-list of ailments in its Wiki page.

The phrase "Alternative Medicine" does not sit well with Stylo.

But it would say Canola oil in the ingredients if it did contain canola oil. Just read the ingredients.

Where do you spit the oil? Do you have a receptacle you keep it in? You do not want to spit that shit down your drain, cause it can **** up your plumbing.

Procedure

Best time to practice oil pulling is with empty stomach.

You'll have to forgive me for not taking the old russian mystic's advice seriously.

You'd think so, but a few years ago there was a series of not-very-publicised scandals about mislabelled cooking oils. A bunch of major brands like Bertolli were found to be selling "extra virgin olive oil" (the most expensive kind) which was adulterated with or completely consisted of non-virgin or non-olive oils, and the general lack of proper enforcement means that this is almost certainly still happening.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olive...ation#Investigations.2C_incidents_and_recalls

With Italian extra-virgin olive oil in high demand with concomitant high prices, adulterated olive oil has become the biggest source of agricultural fraud problems in the European Union.[6] While less than 10% of world olive oil production meets the criteria for labeling as extra-virgin, it has been estimated that up to 50% of retail oil is labeled "extra-virgin".[7] Some oil labeled "extra-virgin" is diluted with cheaper olive oils or other vegetable oils. In some cases, lampante, or "lamp oil," which is made from spoiled olives fallen from trees, is used, even though it can't legally be sold as food. One fraud ring is accused of coloring low-grade soy oil and canola oil with industrial chlorophyll, and flavoring it with beta-carotene.[6]

In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn't routinely test imported olive oil for adulteration, and some products are difficult to test.

As for spitting, I spit into a glass and then flush it down the toilet. I don't think it could be worse than food grease in the plumbing, and even that takes a long time to clog things up.

I would much rather put my money on this:

Tooth decay comes from bacteria in our mouths metabolising sugar from our diet into lactic acid.
A company; Oragenics has modified the genome of the bacteria in our mouth (Streptococcus Mutans or S.Mutans) so that it no longer produces lactic acid. More than this, it now produces an antibiotic - Your saliva becomes antiseptic!. The bacteria can grow from you going to the dentist and getting a five minute topical swab as stated on the website, though I assume a big kiss would do it too, or sharing a drink.
The bacteria, once inside your mouth "aggressively" out-competes the native strain to give you squeaky white teeth for a life time. How nice

The Oragenics strain is in second phase 1 FDA human trials and with any luck, without Colgate and other big oral hygiene brands killing this technology for money, it could well be out and about by the early 2020s! exciting stuff.

I heard about that bacteria shit like 10 years ago. Still another 10 before and then it'll be expensive to boot.

Canola oil is what yanks call rape seed oil right? What's so terrible about it?

They've been testing it on people since 2007, so it should be on the market in the next 5 years.

As for price, you could just get "infected" free of charge with this bacteria lol.

In North America, most of it comes from Monsanto GMO strains. I don't know if it's the same in Europe, but at least some EU countries attempt to stand up to Monsanto.

That anti-bacterial bacteria sounds like it might wreak a tiny bit of havoc on your lower digestive system, unless the antibacterials are destroyed by your stomach acid. :V

I've thought about that too. That the mutant bacteria might be so agressive that it would eliminate usefull bacteria in your body too.

However they claim no adverse effects were obseved on either animal or human test subjects.

I quit smoking weed the same day I started oil pulling, and I haven't had a single withdrawal effect.
This is when I call bullshit.

I can see it maybe being good for your gums though, so not total bullshit. But then again I'm not a doctor or anything, so it still could be.

Monsanto is one of the most disgusting, immoral, and basically evil companies on the planet. They, Bayer, and Dow Chemical (see: Agent Orange) have killed millions, especially in Vietnam and India (see: farmer suicides caused by insane litigation regarding cross-pollination and intentional financial complications), not to mention their RoundUp is destroying bee colonies worldwide. Additionally their GMO strains are at the very least less-nutritious than natural strains, are designed to be pesticide-resistant as a function of each crop's decreasing genetic variation (another knock against food safety), and at least in current research phases are designed with integrated pesticides. There's basically no way that they and their products are not dangerous. A typical alternative medicine woo would be sitting here telling you the wonders of magnetic bracelets, chiropractice, and homeopathic dilutions. My Monsanto hate is about science and history.

[edit] Dog: I smoked 1+ times almost daily for like five years. Weed definitely has withdrawal effects. I didn't get them this time. I don't know what to tell you :V

not to mention their RoundUp is destroying bee colonies worldwide.
Nope. It's thought that pesticides play a role in Colony Collapse, however RoundUp is a herbicide.

Additionally their GMO strains are at the very least less-nutritious than natural strains,

Canola is herbicide-resistant, not pesticide-resistance. Also this sentence doesn't make any sense.

and at least in current research phases are designed with integrated pesticides.
This isn't the case with canola. Even if it was, how is it relevant? Are we insects?

There's basically no way that they and their products are not dangerous.
Alarmist nonsense. They don't exactly have admirable business practices but that doesn't mean you should bash their products and the science behind them.

hmmm.....
Haha I knew someone would point this out. I forgot to mention that I did a short bout of oil pulling about two months ago, while still smoking, and got the same result on the second day of pulling.

- RoundUp is classified as a herbicide; however, like Agent Orange being classified as a defoliant, that doesn't prevent it from having various negative health impacts on various species.
- I don't have a source for that, it's something I picked up a while ago, which I admit may or may not have been sourced itself...
- Decreased genetic variation and pesticide resistance are a definite knock against food safety, but indirectly. I should have been more clear. Decreased variation means more pesticides and herbicides are required on growing crops in order to prevent outbreaks of disease or destruction by insect feeding, as the similarity makes it increasingly likely that one single pest or disease can destroy all of the crops in one fell swoop. Thus, the unvaried crops are more likely to have absorbed larger amounts and more types of pest- and herbicides, making your food more dangerous to consume.
- True, not for canola, I was speaking more generally about Monsanto at that point. We're not insects, but bees aren't herbs and humans aren't trees to be defoliated.
- I admit I'm being alarmist, but given Monsanto's history, I'd much rather be alarmist than not.

From what I remember hearing about Monsanto my main problem with the them is the use of terminator seeds, over the top legal actions against farmers, and general rotten business practices. However in regards to the whole "gmo food is evil" thing, I disagree.

Agent Orange is old. Modern herbicides are significantly more specific.

Crop diversity is a separate issue from GMO crops.
However one of the traits which is often bred for among the limited crop lines is inherent pathogen and pest resistance.

Also crop diversity has no effect on the amount of herbicide used, crops aren't 'resistant' to weeds growing alongside, try to keep pests, pathogens and competitor plants separate in your head. :p You may mean pesticides and fungicides. These are anyway still needed in 'organic' farming, and are the organic versions rather nasty themselves e.g. some copper salts

I get that you wouldn't know the details of how BT toxins work, but trust me they're probably the most species-specific toxins known to science. Purified BT toxin is actually used on organic farms, it's simply sprayed on rather than being made by the plant itself.

who the hell is Yall and why do you need to talk to him? is he the father of your unborn child or sumthin'?
