Recently I have learned to model weapons and I want your opinions on what is the best yet most simple program for modeling weapons used for half-life 2

I would have to say XSI, its free (legally), all you need is a simple official plugin to export hl2 files, and its relativeley easy to learn.

No actually, I heard its relatively hard to learn. Relative to other modelling packages out there. But yeah it's free.

Well if Pesmerga heard it, it must be true!

The second most simple program to model for HL2 is 3dsmax. This is what I use. Download cannonfodders's 3dsmax plugins to import/export and you are ready to MOD.

I had a much easier time learning maya but lots of people say max is easier,,, so basically,,,

wings3d? I learned that in about 20 mins compared to days for the big ones,, nd it's free :D

well xsi is legally free as stated above, but ive found 3dsmax to be easy to use, but its only a demo and gmax (free version) cant do near as much. but for hl2 i would learn xsi and go with that, i am currently trying to learn xsi. just dl the hl2 mod tool version from the sdk.

well if you got the cash o spare you can get student copies of most 3d programs,, in which modding falls into legal grounds...

3ds max I think is 199-299$,, well worth it,,, I've grudingly accepted it and now it's all I use,, maya is good because of it's customizbility (if you want a job at EA, maya knowlege is a major boon since they coded a ton of tools in
mel script)

so basically keep yourself not tied to one specific program,, they're all pretty much the same at the end (move vertex,, merge vertex,, subdivide,,, uvmap,, etc... )

XSI is not difficult to learn, it comes with a manual (RTFM anyone?), however, if you have no knowledge of 3d at all any package will not be easy to learn.
