I was curious if some one could help me with a steam problem i am having.
It has started since my computer crashed two weeks ago.
Possible caused by a virus.
I have had to reinstall window 98se.
My halflife2 content and user profile was stored on another partition. That was not infected, nor lost when defragging.
I now have my internet connection working again but when starting steam it comes up saying. "unadble to establish a connection" please contact user status at steam.
Any advice a thing i still have my user account saved. but unsure what to do.
When inseting the HL2 DVD it wants to install HL2. :flame:

reinstall steam

oh and delete the clientregistry.blob file. yesterday I copied steam to another drive, uninstalled the old one, reinstalled over its new location and it kept wanting to download all the cache files again, turned out it was the clientregistry.blob file telling it it was still on drive E, deleting it fixed it instantly.

Its definintely the clientregistry.blob thing. No need to re-install steam, just delete that one file and you're good to go.

Cheers it works alright. but steam takes forever to initialise.
Think it is to do with the internet connection now.
Also does the clientregistry.blob always re-appear in my steam folder?
