IDE Controller???

Hey I just purchused two more hard drives to put into my computer, I already have one. Now the thing is I looked on the internet about slaves and masters... and found some information saying that you can only have four IDE drives connected or I would need a IDE controller.
Now since I alredy have 2 CD ROM drives and my original hard drive... that means I am over the limit correct? Any information on this would be nice. If I need an IDE controller I have no problem with getting one, but I need to know how it works ect...

Yep you're over your IDE max by one, you'd need an IDE controller thingy. I've seen them at stores, but i can't give you much more information than that.

You pretty much put them in a PCI slot, install drivers, install drives.

You can usually get away with buying a cheap one from newegg, like:

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=16-115-009&depa=0 for 2 IDE slots (4 Drives).

If you don't like those, just try this search for "IDE Controller".

Okay, they are RAID controllers. Yet I do not want RAID... Is that possible with these?

Sure it is, but why wouldn't you want RAID?

I'm pretty sure you don't have to use them in a RAID configuration if you don't want to.
