My primary drive is a SATA one.. and I need to transfer some data from my old IDE harddrive to the SATA one. Now, I've set ALL the jumper settings, and no matter what, it's not being detected - XP flags it up as new hardware.. but I can't actually reach the data on it.

Formatting the IDE drive or loosing the data on it is NOT an option.

Can anyone help?

You've tried master/slave settings and cable select settings? With the jumpers I mean.

Secondly, does the bios detect the old hdd fine?

Thirdly, what file system does it have on it?

Im not too sure on the situation, but did you check the BIOS? You might need to detect it through there for some reason. Usually works for me at school at least...

Yes tried the jumper settings, and the file system is NTFS.

I shall try detecting it through BIOS

The file system on both hard drives is NTFS?

And do you have any software with the drives?

What brand are they?

Fixed it, just needed to use Computer Management and Disk Manager!

:P

My stupid :|

Thanks anyway,
