A fairly simple question - is there any performance difference between the Master and Slave devices on the same channel? Especially when using both devices 'at the same time'. Does the Master get bandwidth priority or are both devices treat equally?

Could, because I didn't fancy screwing around in Disk Management so that I could swap my drive letter assignments. I'm getting a DVD writer to replace my CDRW and I'm far too set in my ways to use anything but E: for it.

Yes.
They share bandwidth and the Master device gets priority over the Slave. Additionally the Primary channel has priority over the Secondary channel, which has priority over the Tertiary channel, if you have one.

SATA doesn't have this nonsense.

Hmm, sod it then, I'll put the DVD writer on the secondary master, with the DVD reader as slave. I'll just have to spend some time changing the drive letter assignments in Disk Management.

I wish I had a SATA mobo ;( I have my stuff set up as HDD1 Primary Master HDD2 Primary Slave CDRW Secondary Master
