Hey hey all

Just about to purchase a new mobo, ram, cpu, gcard, dvd drive and PSU so i can go SATA, dual core and dx10 ready.

Now, the board says it has 1xIDE slot, and that would fit my current hard drive, which i dont really want to replace as its 250gb and has loads on it (im just being lazy, its only a few months old too).

So, if i kept my current HD, would there be anything id need to do in the bios once connected? Or would it literally just be plug it in, connect it up, switch it on with everything else and it should be fine?

Im spending ?600 as it is, dont really want to lash out ?50 more for ANOTHER HD

When I upgraded last, I found that my new mobo had only 1 IDE port. My IDE stuff were a CD drive and 2 Hard drives. Since there was only 1 I could have only connected the CD drive and one hard drive however The cable wouldn't reach to both the CD drive and the hard drive in my case so I had to go and get a new SATA HD since my mobo had like a billion of those.

So you want to run windows with this IDE drive? Or is it just data?

If it has windows installed already, then I don't really know, but I think it might work as long as you uninstall all the drivers before building the new system. Mobo drivers, gfx/audio card drivers, etc.

Then again, you might have to reinstall windows...I think there's a way to do that without erasing any other programs/data on the drive but again, dunno, google is your friend :p

If it's just a storage drive I think it should just plug in and work.

Aye its a HD with windows already installed.

Depending on the windows installation you may not be able to transfer it to a new motherboard.

With XP, you should be able to boot from the CD and do a repair installation, retaining all your original settings.
