if HL2 is being pirated, what would you think about people playing half life 2 earlier than we ?? i would be very angry thats for sure...

I wouldnt really care if they downloaded and played it, as long as they dont come here and ruin the entire game for people who are waiting. Like post threads with the title "OMG check this out" with a bunch of screenshots while there is like a week left for release.

You cant stop people pirating a game...its gonna happen everytime to every game.

well for starters is inevitable ,..every game gets pirated and is released sooner or later ..so therez not much u can do
wat u can do is stay away from boards which can spoil the game for u .
goto the halo2 board on gamespot , the entire game is spoilt there , there are vidoes hsowing gameplay and stories being posted..all in all its screwed...so..its a hopeless case

Now that we have a real release date, I dont care. I could download it and play it myself but I just dont think I would. I spent $100 on this game, and I have had dreams (litterally) of steam saying HL2 was now available. I want that to be a real moment, so I will wait. That is my choice, and if some manage to get the game before Nov 16th (likely to happen on the 14th or 15th), thats fine with me.

Ghehehe, witty!
Like your sig too

hm, no idea. depends on how early a release-groups gots their fingers on it. if it's released weeks before the street-date, i will download and play it, and play it again when my (allready purchased) steam-version is unlocked :).

It all depends how quickly the Warez monkeyz at Vivendi get their hands on a CD. If the warez monkeyz can only get it out on the 16th, then there#ll be no need to download it, as you can just activate it and play via Steam. Why bother waiting for hours to download 3GB when all the content is already on your HDD, it just needs unlocking.

ya, its going to get pirated for sure, but i have to disagree about every game being pirated i still cant find anywhere to download Barbie's Horse Adventure :smoking:

I think the guy who started the topic is asking if the game is pirated it should be released to steam? Not about possible spoilers :)

Wel since its illegal I doubt Steam will release sooner as intended if the game is pirated.

The only reason games get pirated before the game is released is because game stores get games early, obviously. These piraters WORK for game stores (like EB, Gamestop, and such). They get to take the game home, play it, and pass it about on the internet. It's inevitable.

Actually - no. Games get released and pirated from the publishers, not the retail stores. Normally within a couple of days of seeing a gold announcement, the game will be available on warez sites. Happend with Halo2 and most other recent releases.

The warez-scene failed to get the last two vivendi-games released before their official release date, so might be the same for hl2?

Maybe vivendi just got very tight security?

Evil genious:
-Retail date September 28
-Scene date September 30th - Money

Law and order III:
-Retail date October 5th
-Scene date October 8th - Reloaded

but the thing is a 'certain' release group already has hl2. They just haven't released it yet.

No real guess why the warez-scene didn't bother with that one...

Perhaps the reason Vivendi's recent releases didn't get snapped up by pirates is because the games didn't warrant the attention. We will wait and see what happens with HL2 in the coming days / weeks.

not all games can be cracked, toca has gona months without being cracked. maybe hl2 will be unhackable, atleast for a while after its release

i hope so,

first off.

first of all, this game will surely be pirated before ship date because whichever group releases this first will get mad props in the warez scene. this group will be remembered for years to come. yet the flip side to this is that whichever group release it first will get hounded by the feds.

I very much doubt HL2 will be in the hands of any release group, Opium and I hope (fingers crossed) Valve and Vivdendi keep it very secure, which is obviously in their best interest and not that hard to do if they really want to. Chances are we'll see the warez groups getting it as soon as it's out early in the shops just like Doom 3. Here's hoping anyway.

But if it's all encrypted or whatever, and you can only unencrypt it when it is actually released / registering your retail version via steam, that must be pretty h4x0r proof, no? Or is this not the case?

Well yeah it's encrypted but that's not how someone would get there hands on a copy. If a group was to have it then they'd have to have very close links with someone at Valve/Vivdendi who could give them a hard copy of the game that isn't encrypted. Either that or someone has walked in and stolen a DVD just lying about :)

uh guys, the only hard copy isnt from steam. remember, it takes time for the physical copy of hl2 to be manufactured and shipped across the world. someone will definitely have it simply by having close links with the manufacturers of the game.

Pirates work at a lot of different companies, this includes review magazines which gets a full copy early (As PCgamer, and all the other magazines that have reviewed HL2), they work inside the publisher's offices and there are also "hackers", such people that basially downloads the game off someone's PC even though this isn't very common.

That said, there's probably more then one warez group that has the very wanted game HL2 in their hands already. Especilly sinse it's gone gold.

It won't be long before we see HL2 ready for download at various bittorrent sites, including suprnova.

While this may be a bit sad it's inevitable, as said before. Games that are wanted will get cracked sooner or later, mostly sooner. The more wanted the game is, the faster it's cracked. I don't know who said something about Toca, the car game, but I'm guessing it's already been cracked, you missed it, and it's now gone because not many who play car games use such ways of getting the game but rather buys them at a store.

So what can you do?
When the game comes out, buy it. Even if you do download a game, you should still buy it when it comes out. If you don't plan on buying it, don't download it in the first place. It's not an excuse. God knows I myself use lame excuses to ripp of others hard-worked games for my own pityful enjoyment. As long as you buy games that are worth supporting, the gaming industry will stay stable.

Uh, yeah dude. I've downloaded plenty of games to know who the pirate scene works. Although my days of downloading are over...There is just something about owning a box that makes you feel better.

I know a guy playing the RC1 and I do envy him, but I want the less buggy version anyway.
