anyway, i have an amd 2500, geforce 6800, and 512 megs of ram. the game is smooth at times, but it can skip alot and dip to 25-30 at times with highest settings. the game wants me to make textures/models on medium, so I think it's because of my 512 megs of ram. I am going to get a gig soon, but I want to know beforehand, will I get an extra 5 fps or so? and will stuttering be reduced a whole lot? (it doesn't stutter REALLY bad, it's just it'll skip alot in heavy battles).

thanks.

try changing settings and drivers.

once you get a gig of RAM set "heapsize" to 512mb

not sure about the nvidea cards, but there's some awesome Radeon driver tweaks for HL2!

What motherboard do u have? is your memory on a single dimm, and what brand is it?

You will see a ton of difference, but mostly for loading times. But yes, a 5 FPS increase is pretty much guaranteed.

Another 512 might help.

Your processor is holding you back. But dipping to 25fps isn't unusual, with my processor sitting at 3200+ speeds, I still dip to 23-24 fps at times.

BTW I have a gig of ram and still stutter quite a bit, reason why I left it on the bookshelf collecting dust for nearly two weeks.

Ram will really help with load times. It will also really help with the stuttering at the begining of a level. Also as you progress through the game and things in front of you come into view and they load.

Makes things just a lot smoother with a few extra fps. ;)

yeah thats good, but try to go for low latency ram, the lower the numbers the better ex:

i had

1 gig pc32000
2.5-3-3-8

im getting
1 gig pc32000
2-2-2-6

and i will defenatly get better load times, fps

yeah, when i got 512, load times halved. Seriously though you'll see the fps increase straight away
