i disagree look at hl1 if the mp wasnt good(thanx to cs) the game would be forgotten by now , i think a good mp is what keeps a game alive for many years.

because when Hl1 came out, its actual online component was brushed off as being another bland attempt. (was the only reason that HL1 didnt get 10/10 instead of 9.9/10 ratings)

however it seems as though this time through the MP has been approached with the correct amount of focus... hopefuly.

agreed. simply put.. i'd go insane not knowing what happened to Gordon and the G-man and so on..

for longevity reasons MP.. but really like its already been mentioned above, without the SP experience and the inspiration it gave to fans, there would be no real interest in MP and the mod community wouldn't be what it has become to this day.

I'd definitely go with the singleplayer - it looks even more amazing this time around and I've always prefered singleplayer games.

Granted the multiplayer is what keeps the game alive (and I play alot of multiplayer) - but only because there's no singleplayer left.

Try making a game with an infinitely long singleplayer that never gets repetative and somehow remains fresh - see if that needs a multiplayer component.

I say Single player. The story was engaging in the original HL. I still play HL SP. I played most of the MP mods(CS, DOD, Underworld etc. hell I even played that damn ricochet thing), but the one that I keep going back to is the SP game. I would be extremely upset if there was either no MP, or SP included in the game.

i dunno, this was a tough question. I decided to go with multiplayer + mods. In the end its the multiplayer that keeps a game alive. single player, can get old after you've played it about the 3rd time through. Multiplayer on the other hand, is what I usually turn to after the singleplayer. multiplayer takes a lot longer to get 'old'.

but i really do love singeplayer, so thank god were not left with this decision in reality
