it would be easy to just block them. there have ben many updates seens people have been making them and not once has valve done ANYTHING sept for say we dont like them :p :p :p.

thoughts?

So because Valve don't modify CS:S to not allow new maps, they must support them....

Great logic, batman.

They dont block them cos theyre crap :p they make the official maps look good :E

Tell me....how do you do this "blocking." Because to me, it sounds like you don't really know what you're saying. The CS:S servers that you play on are Insecure Servers. Ever changed that little dialogue box to Secure? Nothing shows up. VALVe can't do anything about those servers, because they are made by the fans. They've got no control over them....

Valve could (assuming they wanted to) modify the server files to prevent them from loading anything other than de_dust (and using a checksum to prevent someone from renaming another map file).

It's not really worth the effort though, and if those files are different to the retail version, then it's not really a valid beta test.

are you serious? it would be so easy to only allow de_dust to be played

to do this "blocking" all they would have to do is change the code to make it so it only loads de_dust and not other bsp files

Where did he say that valve supports user created CSS maps? He didn't, he said that valve isn't really that upset by the maps as it they could be. He never said that Valve supported these maps.

Great logic there, batman.

How do we know that they're not that upset about the custom maps? How do we know that they're not that happy about the custom maps?

They probably don't give a shit, since it's a beta version and playing those illegal maps just makes the retail ones look like a sexy tight behind. Oh yeah .... *off to spank the monkey*

Heh, I shouldn't have made that inference really

thanks X2Cube, thats ezactly what i was going to say. and actualy bada_aztec3 rocks it looks almost as good as the real one seen in the vids. and he keeps updating it an making it better.

and you guys are thinking to hard. in unreal you can do it in 5 lines of code... all you have to do is check the map name or some other stat (like the number of brushes) and if its not = then dont load the server. its easy, unless source actualy rilly sucks for coding and netcode but i doubt that.

That still doesn't make it right.

did i every say it was right? no, i belive that its wrong but dose that stop me? no, im tierd of freeking dust and when the full game comes out i probaly wont play dust for a month...

and you cant truly belive that this is hurting valve. just name one way it is.

No-one forced you to take part in the beta test of CS:Source. If you got bored of that map, then that's your problem.

I don't believe that I ever stated that it was hurting Valve. However, using the tools from the stolen build is both illegal, and against Valve's wishes. Obviously, some people have more morals.

ah but that is my point, if valve actually did truly care they would stop it. they can but they choose not to.

i also don't see how the beta hurts them either, they said it them selfs that it has nothing to do with the delay of half life 2, and its not like some one is not going to buy the game because they have a 10% done game... and all it dose it let people learn how to map for css/hl2, imho it actually helps them.

but i don't deny that it probably coast them a lot of money with all the investigations and stuff, i personally wish it never happened, but seens it did happen and that cannot be changed (unless this was 1984) why not use it as a tool?

Who released the tool to open GCF's? i don't know, i'm not being sarcastic. Seems to me tho, that you need it in order to make maps for HL1, if you use STEAM. Changes to make new maps can be done in notepad, although it is quite a big chore to do so.

to voice my opinion, it really doesn't make sense for valve to block the custom maps...i mean, part of the reason that HL is so popular is because of the mods. Valve have said in the past that they would always support modders, and for modders to try their skills with the new engine, certain things must be made available.
It's not like they've COMPLETELY modded the game or necessarily used tools from the stolen build...as far as i know not all the tools were in the stolen build, but i could be totally wrong.

i think your rong about that. all the mapping sites say you have to have hl2 beata (to bad the torents are down :() then they give you some other updated files and maps etc...

Well in the end it depends on morals and your concience...

What the hell are morals?

I don't see how Valve would get upset that people are goofing around with the beta. What do they stand to lose?

Valve dosn't support them, and they don't have to. That just means there not gonna help you with any questions about that map etc.. Thats all, it dosn't mean there not gonna disallow you to play them. Sure they could, but what would be the point?
Valve has bigger issues like owning vivendi in court.
You know, i think we could settle this court issue with a simple game of, Valve vs Vivendi at Counter-Strike or HL deathmatch :).

You don't see it - that's the point.

When the beta was stolen, Valve asked people not to download/use it.

What's hard to understand?

Haha, all the worlds troubles, solved with a nice 30 minute game of T's Vs CT's.

Then all hell would break loose when Vivendi get owned and blame it on "the CT's get better weapons at the start" - Then sue VALVe for being biased, or.. something.

VALVe have every right to ban people from using the stupid-maps, because it's
a) Distrobution of one of their products (The Half-life 2 Beta)
b) Decompiling of one of their products (Or backwards-hacking) - HL2 Beta.

And so on. but VALVe don't because they have more sense.

The tools in the stolen build are required for someone to make a CS:S map.
