... to let the entire world stop what they're doing, sit back and relax with a drink or a smoke, and listen all the way through one album, by one artist, one time, what would you have people listen to?

Essentially, what do you consider the best (not necessarily your favorite, but the most wonderful) album in your collection? If you could recommend one album to the world, this would be it.

Mine is easy:

TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain

If you haven't heard it, please, PLEASE, give it some time and listen to it a couple of times, it's pure beauty.

The Campfire Headphase - Boards of Canada

It is, and (in my opinion will always be), the ultimate chill-out album. It's the perfect album to sit back and think to. Close your eyes and let the music swirl around you, taking you where it wants to go. You can learn a lot about yourself by just listening to an album, and this is the perfect album to do this to. Just relax and think.

On reflection, a lot of albums deserve this spot, so I'll list a few more.

Blue Eyed In The Red Room - Boom Bip
The Fragile - Nine Inch Nails
Boc Maxima - Boards of Canada
Finally We Are No One - Mum

Goddamn it. I hate these "Pick One" threads; I can never follow through.

Believe me, I had trouble just deciding on one as well. The Campfire Headphase is certainly in my top five. I'm glad that you like it that much, though, it seems that a lot of Boards of Canada fans don't quite appreciate it as much as they should. I prefer it to Geogaddi and MHTRTC, though In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country is definitely my favorite BOC release.

I'd **** around with people and put on "Confield" by Autechre.

Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf

I'd like to say At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command, but I could only say ''this album is perfect'' after a few listens, as on my first I kinda neglected it/it went over my head. So for people to listen to once and only once may not work.

Not many people that think 10,000 Days is better than Aenima or Lateralus. It's got a couple of amazing tracks mixed in with a lot of good ones and a few wtf ones... I dunno.

It's not nearly as powerful as Lateralus or Aenima, but it's still very good in its own right. Right in Two, Vicarious, Wings for Marie / 10,000 Days are all AMAZING songs, and the rest are all pretty good as well.

I really prefer 10,000 Days to any other Tool album.

Mr. Beast - Mogwai

Great album, lots of chill out and rock out songs.

I prefer 10,000 Days for it's uniqueness, but I wouldn't say it's flat out better than their other stuff.

Anyway, not a Tool thread.

Hmm... my first thought was APC - 13th Step, but if I'm gonna have the whole world listen to it, I should probably choose something not quite so widely known. Plus we seem to be going more for the chill-out feel anyway. So, that taken into consideration...

Eight - Moving

Kiwi album from a now-split band. Reeeally nice stuff, get the feeling alot of people on this board would appreciate it if they could get their hands on it. There's some chilly stuff in there, and some rock-out stuff, and alot of in-between. But it's all got this really nice feel to it that I think alot of people from different tastes could get into. So yeah, that'd win for my best, most widely appreciable album, and probably one of the most obscure to boot :)

Taking Back Sunday - Louder Now
I listen to it all about everyday, just something about the sound TBS has that makes me love them

The Smiths - Hatful Of Hollow (it's not a studio album, it's BBC sessions, but it's amazzze)

If sessions aren't allowed, then I'd go with The Smiths - The Smiths

Either Tool - Lateralus or Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile.

Although my favourite album of all time is NIN - The Downward Spiral, The Fragile contains incredible soundscapes.

Three albums immediately spring to mind:

The Campfire Headphase - Boards of Canada (Geogaddi is too calculating and hostile, MHTRTC is just a tad too dark)

Ki-Oku - Dj Krush and Toshinori Kondo (as far as chill-out goes it's unbeatable)

The Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd (duh)

Of course, I can't choose between the three. I can only urge each and every one of you to acquire these three albums and devote your ears to them.

I haven't heard that second pick; I'll add it to my list.

By the way, listening as I am right now to the Young Liars EP by TV on the Radio, I'm wondering if I should have picked this instead. There are only five tracks but they're all made out of gold.

Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral

or maybe

Radiohead - Hail to the Thief

There There is a strong contender for my favorite Radiohead song ever.

Illinois - Sufjan Stevens

or alternatively

Seven Swans - Sufjan Stevens

as that album is easy for newcomers to get into.

Pink Floyd - Dark side of the Moon

Not exactly my personal favorite but I do consider it one of the best albums of all time.

woah i just had al listen to the campfire headphase and i have to say it is pure awsomeness,
yeah pink floyd - dark side of the moon especially on dvd. For pure chillout jazz id have to say Bugge Wesseltoft - new conception of jazz live ... good stuff

Clandestino by Manu Chao. Best all round album I know. It has a little bit of everything. The songs are in about three or four languages. It has a latin feel to it but it has loads of other influences. And best of all, it makes you feel good. Ideal travel album also.

I do this all the time anyway, but- The Cranberries; No Need To Argue.

Division Bell - Pink Floyd. There seems to be a lot of Pink Floyd here!!!:D

Yeah, **** it. I changed my mind, definitely A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step here. My previous choice is good but 13th sums up my tastes in music all too nicely. It's not neccesarily my favourite, but it's more or less a culmination of various themes and genres I like, and it's a really cohesive album from start to finish. Also, if my mum can like it, anyone can :E

Deloused In The Comatorium - The Mars Volta
Might've been my choice if I wasn't convinced 95% of people would just turn it off after the first couple songs :p

Definitely near the top of my favourite albums, but not something anyone can/will get into.

Maybe Automatic for the people -R.E.M.

That's really a great album, but I think No Direction home by Bob Dylan might so better.

Daydream Nation- the Sonic Youth

****ing orgasmic album, 70 minutes of mind shredding pleasure. I was tempted to put darkside of the moon, but anyone who is anyone has heard that album.

The song Teen Age Riot is one of the best ever. EVER.

The rest of the album is just as good id say( the Spawl and Candle go above and beyond imo)
