If you haven't bought a 360, don't buy one just yet...

Some believe this to be fake FYI.
And some believe that God exists, but we can't all be right.

I'm not too excited about this, really, though the inclusion of HDMI does make it more appealing to me, especially with my family's current TV.

It might be fake, but I am optimistic that this is what MS is going to do. The pic of the port in the back seems legitimate enough, and the word of a cooler processor for the 360 seems to support this idea of a Xbox360 v2.

Different versions of the same consoles. Ok, now the only difference between Pc's and consoles is that PC controllers don't suck

That's rubbish. No video game hardware company could possibly expect to survive alienating over 9 million early adopters and screwing them over just because they bought theirs early. Unless an upgrade comes cheap (free) then it would be 'ok'.

This is not like upgrading a computer. The X360 upgrades mentioned above is not worth another $400 and no one needs two X360's.

Microsoft's Second Coming of the Xbox 360 Revealed

Microsoft's "Zephyr" leaked to the press complete with HDMI, 120GB hard drive and 65nm processor

With Sony's PlayStation 3 knocking on the Xbox 360's door, it was only a matter of time before Microsoft made the move to make its year-old console even more competitive. DailyTech has already reported that Microsoft has been able to successfully pare down its costs associated with producing the Xbox 360, so now is a more opportune time than ever to release an update.

According to Engadget, the Xbox 360 v2 (codenamed Zephyr) should go a long way in making the console cooler by swapping out the 90nm IBM Xenon PowerPC processor in favor of a 65nm revision that has not been announced yet.

There is also a single HDMI port for full 1080p support -- no firmware trickery needed. Also on the way is a 120GB hard drive which would double the capacity of Sony's top-ranging PS3. There’s no word on if Microsoft has seen fit to quiet the banshee-like DVD drive, but we can only hope that the answer is yes.

Engadget's "inside man" tells them that the new console will be available soon. We'll keep our ears and eyes open during Bill Gates' keynote on Sunday at CES to see if he has anything to say about the console.

Seems real to me. A lot of people have been wanting both HDMI and a larger hard drive. It kind of makes me wonder if they will also be throwing in an internal HDDVD drive or at least create another model that includes the drive. 1080P over HDMI seems to be what everyone wants.

Could you be any less of a PC fanboy, Link?

Apart from the fact that a game is guaranteed to run on the system it is designed for without you having to trouble shoot, name something consoles can do better.

I'll give you three things: Zelda, Mario, and Final Fantasy. :smoking:

good job my x360 has become secondary to the pc like my ps2 was, no way im buying some upgrade just because its reaches to the ps3's capacity

its more fun to compare and experiment though.

I'm not fussed about HDMI. The difference in quality over component is next to nothing - in some cases component is superior. It's a good move by MS, but not a reason to upgrade your current machine (this is no DS - DS lite upgrade) or wait if you want a 360 now.

That was a good article Majestic.

It seems to me that while Sony made the overall better console, they ****ed up big when not including a hardware scaler.

Maybe I just don't get it, but can someone explain to me why PS3 developers don't just design games in 1080i? That way it would downscale on older TVs into 720p without leaving 1080i owners with a 480p picture. It makes sense to me but that's probably because I don't know a whole lot about HDTVs (if I did I would have gotten one that could output in both 1080i and 720p). Or would it just be too much trouble to include built-in support for both?

Another issue is the Blu-Ray. I'm all for it if games wind up making use of it or it becomes the dominant movie format. Either of those (or preferably both) would make me perfectly happy with the price ... if it doesn't happen I might be a bit pissed.

;)

My current tv is only capable of 1080i, which makes the PS3 a complete no no. I'm not that fussed right now, but as soon as more decent games come out, Sony will be without an otherwise potential customer. Very silly.

Then again, i'll probably have a 1080p projector later this year, which'll probably be before there's something worth buying a PS3 for :)

I bought my Xbox360 two days ago. If this is true....I will cry

I was waiting for a price drop anyway. Maybe I will just end up getting more for my money, even if its the same amount of money....

I know the new proccessor core is factual info. but i'm not too sure about the hdmi and bigger hdd, well it kinda sucks for me, but yes, a good move for microsoft. I just hope they at least have a trade in your 20gb for the bigger one deal.(fingers crossed)

Meh, I see no reason to have that much HD space unless you're d/ling a ton of High Def content. The HDMI means nothing to me as any tv I get will probably only have 720p. Also I've had no heat problems with my 360 so this whole upgraded 360 is useless to me.

I disagree on the PS3 being a better console hardware wise. Sure, its more powerful, but its extremely hard to code for, its extremely expensive, it lacks a hardware scaler, it uses Blu-Ray (Which is more expensive to use then HD-DVD. The average consumer isn't ready to dish out that much money for something HD-DVD can do with a little less special features on their DVDs. That, and many Hollywood Studios are supporting HD-DVD), and all of its processors don't work at of least 30% of their power. Sony also has made horrible commericals (Some being pretty cool though) and done horrible press coverage (E3) for the PS3.

And on the TVs thing (Please do know, I have no idea what I'm talking about in this section, just trying to remember of things I've heard of before.)
I believe there was an issue with LCD monitors/TVs rescaling themselves to another resolution, though, older CRT TVs could probably do it (As again, I don't even know if older TVs are actually done via CRTs.. I deduct that they are, and this is just speculation on my part.)

Either way, if you send it at 1080i, and your using an older cable to hook the system to the TV, the cable wouldn't be able to transfer that much info (I don't know much about this part either, but I'm pretty sure on it)

I have no doubt this is true... It doesn't really matter to me that much however since my TV doesn't support 1080p, my console has only overheated twice and was easily fixed by taking the dvd cases someone put over the cooling holes on the top and letting it sit.

The only thing in there which would be nice, but still isn't necessary, is the 120gb HD... I don't download the HD movies, nor do I keep a lot of game demos on my HD...

However, that rumored to be announce IPTV functionality ( http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/05/xbox-360-hits-10-4-million-announces-iptv/ ) would make the 120gb HD seem much more necessary than a thing which is just good to have.

We'll see :)

I like to have an options for this better 360, but im running into a few problems.

This is annoying, simply put now i need to buy another 360...
Transferring the ton of saves and vidoes i have....Pain in the ass.
Spending more money on shit i dont need but want to have..

I'm more than happy which the current 360 running via vga.

What. The. ****. I feel ripped off. I am not paying for a second 360 so soon after I got my first. It's not like buying a xbox 3(or whatever it'll be called) it's Microsoft ****ing us up. Again. No surprises there. If this turns out to be true I will write an extremly rude letter to them about what bastards they are.
EDIT: Stupid swear filter.

Why do you really care?

More space sounds nice, but I doubt i'll ever come close to filling my current drive. I can understand hdmi being an issue if you're running out of sockets on your tv (I had to by a new a/v receiver due to having 4 component inputs :/), but other than that there's no reason to go for hdmi - games won't look any better. The only real advantage is if the machine is significantly quieter/more reliable - something we won't know untill they're released.

OMG HDMI SUPPORT!?

Don't really care, as long as I can play any new 360 games coming out on my current 360, I don't give a shit

Also, there's a 90% chance that's fake

Well, having seen the video of the HDMI port in use on a dev kit, along with the new motherboard photos, etc it seems quite true. :O

FU**!!!
i hope this is fake cause i just bought one yesterday!! :(

My roommate bought one a couple weeks ago. Then again, all we have are tube TVs and he's half blind, so it doesn't really make a difference.

The only new feature that really interests me is the 120GB HD, but I've only used about a gig of my current one, so I doubt I'll need a 120GB

man...good thing i decided to buy the wii first, then the 360. =)

I hope it doesn't cost anymore than the current 360, but this would be a good reason to keep that price (or go higher) for atleast another couple months, and the main reason I haven't gotten a 360 yet is because of the price (I want the premium) :(

They should be concentrating on the Xii (Xbox + Wii).

tbh, this doesn't bother me in the least. I'm pretty sure I won't be using any tv that supports 1080i for quite a while, and I don't need 120 gigs of HD space. I just want to play games ffs.
