Next time you're in line at the grocery store and you roll your eyes at the person with two carts full of items refusing to leave the 10-items-or-fewer line, you might be in trouble with the law -- at least if you live in Elmhurst, Illinois. Officials of the Chicago suburb are looking into finding a way of putting an end to the practice by legal means.

To be honest, I think that giving so much authority to local governments cause oh so much stupidity to occur. I mean, would this have been even talked about on a national, federal level? This is talked about only because the people living in a town are all retarded. Or misguided.

I find the results quite amusing nevertheless.

That's what the tiered court system is all about. Escalating the issue till the higher judicial power says the lower executive power was retarded.

Yes. Somebody gets arrested or fined for this, and go to court and fight it until a court agrees with them. If a court disagrees, they can appeal (if the next higher court accepts the case) all the way to the Supreme Court (9 judges so there is never a tie in deciding) which is the final court and basically their rulings set precedent on laws for the whole nation.

If a law is made but not enforced you don't really have a way to fight it. There has to be an infringement on your rights to get the law struck down (IE: a criminal arrest or civil fine has to be made)

I've lived in chicago for a few years and visited Illinois numerous times, and it never seemed that Left wing. I've known Illinois to pass some very silly laws and regulations both at a state and local level, but even for that state this law is very silly. At least this "law" is in one town.

Outside the law.

Which means anti-gun legislation will do diddly squat to solve gun crimes unless Very VERY strict penalties are enforced and even then that would do little to curb gun related crimes because criminals operate "outside the law". Something else needs to be done about that issue tbh because that's obviously the wrong approach.
