First off Ive played through HL2 fine, HL2DM for hours on end, Doom 3 and what not of all fine 3D games, no real problems.

Anyway, Ive started mapping today and within the last few hours hammer has locked up my computer in a weird way. I know its hammer because I have no other program really active.

Basically it begins with me selecting thus the wall becomes a highlighted colour, from there it flickers and the flickering becomes much more intense.

So I save and try to avoid doing it, after a few minutes suddenly hammer freezes, the screen goes black, then hammer comes back and is working, then in maybe a minute or two my monitor turns itself off and my HDD light stops working until I hard reset.

I dont understand whats happening and its happened randomly quite afew times now :| My motherboard is running 39c @ and my graphics card is running at 51c, which is normal - so its definetly not over heating.

I'd check the drivers.. it doesn't sound good whatever it is.

Though because computers are weird.. I'd blame your soundcard heh

No but seriously.. are you able to play any of those games in windowed mode? Might be some issues with windowed hardware accelerated 3D.

Yep, Im using the 4.12 betas (omegas), no problem with them up until now :/

Hammer just crashed again, atleast it was just a standard windows crashed.

Guess Im going to have to get in the habit of saving every 35 seconds

downgrade to older drivers.. you don't seem to be the only one having issue's with them.. oh and using beta's is kinda asking for trouble. I'd not be surprised if thats the problem right there.

and another one.

Actually, I had problems with my computer locking up to. I downloaded the Hercules drivers (since I have a Hercules card) instead of the Omega ones. Haven't had a lockup since then.

And about saving every 35 secound. It's not a bad habit, I do it without thinking about it. =)

hammer definately needs incremental saving for those of us who automatically save just from force of habit everytime we've done something different.

I've been getting hard crashes in hl2 dm with 4.12 (the screen freezes, nothing responds, and vicious sounds come out of the speakers) . I'll try catalyst 4.11 and see if that works. I suggest you start there too.

I uninstalled the omegas because cs:s would crash with them every once and a while...i switched back to ati drivers...btw make sure you turn off vpu recover in the settings (having this enabled seems to cause more crashes than fixing them)
