Seriously, the amount of times I have ever seen the BSOD of needed to restart are countless. While I'm down my dad's, he has given me a Windows 98 computer to browse the internet on.

  1. I cannot open IE from Quick-Launch or the desktop when another window is open without it freezing.
  2. I cannot open My Computer, Control Panel, or My Documents, without it freezing.
  3. Both the CD drive and DVD drive do not work. None even open.
  4. Some flash pages I can't even view, WITHOUT IT FREEZING.

So how do I get round this?

  1. To open IE, I either have to sign into MSN and open Windows Live Mail, and voila! Opens IE there.
  2. To open My Computer or My Documents, I have to go to Start > Run > Browse and look around in that miniture box
  3. CD & DVD drive do not work. Nothing I can do.
  4. Likewise with number 3.

Its driving me crazy.

Try reinstalling Windows? Seems like your problems are pretty serious... calls for a serious solution.

Is it the Special Edition with the service pack? Win98SE was the first stable OS for me. What's under the hood, by the way?

Do they open when u first boot? If not, get another HDD, assuming there nothing wrong with the cd drives themselves.

I can't open them whatsoever.

Anyway, this pc is going in the trash later on in the year. I just thought I mention my struggle.

He probably meant what specifications your Personal Computer has - the "hood", under which in most cars the engine is, being a metaphore of a PC case containing the hardware.

I'll post them tomorrow. Im on a better pc now, with a NAME CHANGE! HAHAHA!
