im going insane!

Right ive just recievd hl2 for xmas and was pleased etc etc...however i cant play the b*****d!every time i try to load it it shuts down sayn "the memory could not be read" i have a pentium 4 2.8ghz with 64mb intel extreme graphics and 256mb ram. Ive tried to play old halflife games, opposing force, blue shift but when i double click on their icons wont work. Ive been on the steam site and done everything it suggests re this problem but it still wont work!!!!!AHHHHHHHHH!!! Please help other wise im going to smash this thing up!!Thanks mark. :angry:

Thanks but ive already seen those and nothing workd. ive just noticed that in my control pannel, in system, it says that i only have 248mb ram not 256mb as i thought. Would this be the cause of problem as min required is 256, if so wheres my other 8mb gone?Thanks
