why am i gonna cry? because my computer is a pentium 2ghz w/ 256 megs of ram..i dont think thats gonna be quite enough to run Half Life2!! :(

I would order a computer online but i dont have enough money, and i dont think i could apply for monthly payments because i have no credit!! wahh!!! my job will get me about 400 bucks before hl2 is released. anyone know any good places to buy a computer that will run halflife2 for cheap?????

thx.

What vid card do you have?

Just upgrade your ram to 512 mb and make sure to have a highend dx8 card or lowend dx9 card and you'll probably be fine.

buy some more Memory and you should be fine. what video card do you have?

just gete 256 more RAM and youll be fine so long as you have a video card that is decent, if you got integrated GFX and a AGP prot you can buy a GeforceFX 5200 for 50$ and paly the game fine.

dude chill if you get more ram you should be alright, I have enough but my card is a MX 440 64MB Ram and I'm still gonna play(though it will look aweful compaired to the pictures)

If you don't know what vid card you have then it's likely a piece of shit

He's right. If you've already got a nice video card, you're all set. If not, for 400 dollars you can easily get a Radeon 9800 pro (for less than 200) and another half-gig of RAM. With those two components, you'll be able to run Half-Life 2 and higher settings and a smooth framerate all the way through.

I have a Athlon XP 1.7+, 320mb ram, geforce2 mx400 and i can run half-life 2. The game looks bad but atleast it runs. I'm sure you'll be albe to play it too. Unless your video card is really crappier than mine.

....rofl. I'd love to see you run HL2 with that.

"WAIT...wait! I think i'm getting a bit above -20 fps!"

You have know idea how happy that's made me. :D

Im still going to buy the game, ill bring it home, install it. hopefully it works ok.....if not....then....wah wah

dont worry. it will work. I got css working on a amd 1800+ xp with 256mb ram and onboard geforce2 (something or rather).

Won't look the best but it will run. Just get more memory and it should load decently.

Set it to directx 7.0. It'll work, and probably with decent framerates. But it's not going to look like any of the pictures you've seen online and in magazines.

Im running a 1.7 gig AMD with 768 megs of ram and a 9700 pro, i get 50 somthing fps in the CSS stress test, and everythings pretty smooth, plus doom3 was more than playable so i dun expect to much trouble, (even on a shite cpu!)

the thing is, its my dads comp he doesnt like me putting new stuff in it because he doesnt beleive that im computer literate and he gets all scared......whatever, ill just buy a new graphic card and install it when he is not looking.

I'm runing a P4 2.66 GHz CPU, 1 Gig ram, ATi All-In-Wonder 9600. The only thing I'm worried about is my graphics card. I believe it's only a 128.

Your video card is crappy. If it was decent, you could run the game well by adding 256 more RAM (CSS runs amazingly well on medium comps). As it is, you'll need another 256 MB RAM and, say, a GeForce FX 5200 if you want to play the game.

if thats a true 1.7 amd and not a 1700+ then thats a good computer.

im running a p4 3.8 (OCed) with 2 gbs of dual channel hyper kingston ram and a gefore 6800 ultra, i hope i can get reasonable fps in hl2!!

Update your memory too thats your biggest problem beside the video card. puting in memory is very easy to do. what kind of video card are you looking at?

what chip?

Pfftt, if you can get $400 from work before HL2, you can get a X800 Pro.

Your 2 biggest problems are your memory and your video card, and I would suggest upgrading both for maximum improvement.

You can pick up another 256 megs for aorund $70 and get a decent mid range video card for around $150.

We are talking just over $200 in upgrades.

If you just get a video card you can experience a bottleneck with so little memory especially in intense battles where the CPU is doing a lot of work and you FPS can drop considerable.

If you just upgrade memory you can experience a bottleneck on the Video card plus having to put up with DX6 graphics on your old card.

If you want to spend all $400 get 6800 nvidia and 512MB of memory then your computer will rock HL2. My computer has similar Spec and i get 87fps on the CSS benchmark.

Just remind your dad that he is going to get a free (to him) upgrade to his system! Almost no-one would ever turn down a free upgrade (I know I wouldn't :cheese: ). And if that fails, get a new vidcard anyway, and install it when he is not home (if he thinks the one he has is OK, he probably doen't pay attention to it, and won't notice you switching them). You MUST get a new video card in that thing at all costs. A newer card will make more difference than the ram, and at least you would stand a chance of playing it looking decent (although both ram and vidcard would be preferable).

Is 128 MB memory in the graphics card too little? Because I can't upgrade without buying a new card, and I need the TV and line in/out feature.

Uhhh... can anyone say new processor? With all physics and what not aren't processors a huge factor?

2.0 P4 aint bad at all, i dont think he needs a new processor, HL2 stress test runs at 60 FPS at 1024x768 on my Pentium M 1.6 with 32meg mobility radeon 9000, thats at Dx7 though, but it still looks alot better then HL1 which is the last computer game i bought, so for me everything looks very good, obviously Dx9 is way better, but since i play HL1 a Dx6 game HL2 on Dx7 seems like a nice graphical improvement for me just like many of you might see from Dx8 games to Dx9.

you'll be able to run it fine, don't worry
(Disclaimer: Rafa 5.0's claims are not approved by the FDA and meant to treat or cure any illness)

Notice folks, the CS Source Stress Test isn't a real good thing to base fps off...in HL2 there are a lot more things going on in the background which if moving can really lag your fps down.
