Yep. I've waited since I read Where the Red Fern Grows in fifth grade to get a dog, and over half a decade later I've decided to get off my ass and do it.

Here's what I'm considering:

Beagle.
Cocker Spanel
Golden Lab
Shiba Inu (in the freakin' rare chance that they have one, I doubt it though).

And whatever else I see. Heck, nothing wrong with a mutt.

Any experience on these dogs, or any other dogs that may be worth looking into? I'd perfer a quiet, small dog that's playfull and doesn't shed.

The only animal-like thing that doesn't shed is a teddy bear. :P

Meh, sounds like you're just going down to the pound, and gonna pick a dog on impulse.

Not good.

The part where you went "i'm giong to the pound in three days, and i don't even know what kind of dog I want!"

That doesn't mean I'm going to pick one out on impulse. Plus, do you even know Pound Regulations? They make you play with it, bathe it, fill out applications, etc, before you can take it home. It's not like I go there, point at a dog, and they give it to me, there's definetly a process to make sure you won't be a bum**** owner.

I know about all that, but i'd figure that if you wanted a dog, you'd research different breeds, their mental tendencies, physical abilities, what they were bread for, etc etc...

Not just go "That's a nice looking chihuahua. He's nice too. Let's get him!"

You'd be buying a chihuahua, without knowing that they are some of the highest maintenance mother****ers around.

I've had experience with all the dogs I listed, and by that I mean my friends have them, and I've seen how they act. I know the pros and cons of a Beagle, trust me.

get a westie, there the best

That being said...

A longhaired 'tween dauchsund. If you raise them right, they are the calmest, most easy going, friendliest dogs in the world.

German Shephards are extremely intelligent/obedient, very magnifacent looking, very physically capable, and FIERCELY loyal/protective.

Only downside is potential health problems such as hip dysplaysia(sp?)

I'd have you get a Jindo Dog, but they're too loyal. As in, they will never leave a master even if he sent them away. They'll travel hundreds of kilometers to get back to their original owners.
