I'm working as a production assistant for my Dad's news channel, and we're going to interview Zach Snyder about Watchmen. I'm the only person on the whole damn crew who know's the slightest thing about Watchmen, so I may be writing the questions, maybe even putting them to the man himself on camera.

Don't give me crap questions like, 'Do you think it will blow', or 'So, like, what's the ending?'. Be serious now. Now that I've gotten that out of the way...

Anything you folks'd like him to answer?

Well, I'm not a fan of the Watchmen, I haven't had a chance to read the comics, will that affect how I understand the whole plot of the movie?

Watchmen is the best graphic novel I have ever read, so yeah, I'll think of a question.

Ask him how long the movie will be roughly in minutes. If he doesn't know then ask how many pages the script has - 1 page = 1 minute of movie time.

How are you going to put in the assorted memos, the biography of Mason, and the news clippings in between each issue, if you are?

If you do use it, re-word it, I suck at writing.

how do they plan to work in the US/Soviet tension that's throughout the book? it worked well during the time because it mirrored real life tensions which are no longer a concern ..will the Soviets mysteriously be changed to "terrorists" or a "rogue nation"?

I don't think it'd be a problem at all. Tension between nations from history presented in a movie has never been a problem before.

Thank you gentlemen. Some of your questions I already know:

@StardogChampion

Snyder is desperately trying to get his three-hour cut to be the one you see in theaters. In all likelihood, it will be something more along the lines of 2 1/2 hours. The avg. issue is 28 pages, so x12 = 336 pages of panels, not counting the Mason biography and those sorts of documents.
So, you would have just over two pages a minute.
Probably a bit better, as I know certain stories, like the Tales of the Black Freighter and (not 100% sure on this second one, but I've heard rumor) the physchiatrist's home life have been cut.

@CptStern
The setting is still 1985, with all the Cold War atmosphere.

I thought Stern was wondering about how the movie would be received by people today with regards to that...

I thought there was no question about changing the setting of the story.

Ask him who is favorite character is, and scoff if he says anything other than Rorschach.

This.

Also ask if he has ever been tempted to change
the downer finale
in order to improve audience reaction to the movie.

I know he's keeping the ending. The exact details of the conspiracy might differ, but the end result is the same.

Just read about this a little bit more, I think I'll go to the store and pick up the graphic novel today.
Need some reading material whenever I've got down time at work.

Will the film elude to the comic within a comic theme of the Pirate story which the Kid is reading at the News Stand?

this x 100

So...interviewed the lot of them, got to see never-before-seen footage, and like, rather than write up a huge, exhaustive report for which I have neither the time or the inclination, I'll just say this:

I'm a Watchmen fanatic. Let no man say otherwise.

I am an intelligent, analytical man. I think so, anyway.

From what I've seen on screen, and from what Snyder and his crew have said...

This shit is going to be awesome.

P.S.: I got to meet Dave Gibbons, and not only did he sign my copy of Watchmen but he drew, within the space of 10 seconds, a stunning resemblance of Rorschach on the front page going 'Casey?* Hurm'. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being fairly awesome, 10 being FRAKKING AWESOME!, how awesome is that?

*yours truly

I think Gibbons may be at a con I'm going to next year, though I can't remember if thats true or not.

Awesome news, anyway.
