That is right; at least in the next few weeks. A new one, indeed. At the moment, it's nearly filled up. I'm looking to spend, at the most, $170. I want a very good quality HDD and something that will last me, with a lot of space of course. I have heard that Maxtor, Seagate, and Western Digital are very reliable and supply great HDD.

So, can anyone give me some advice on this upcoming buy? I think at least 80GB would be good, though I don't know if that's too much.

BTW: What is SATA? Is it any good? And what's the best RPM speed I can get with the amount of money I am willing to spend?

Thanks man. That first link was the one I was looking at too. Ya know, I just might get it.

focus more on cache size than RPM - 7200rpm recommended for system drives though: if it's jsut gonna be a big data drive then 5400rpm is plenty..... gawd - I use dto have one of those 4000rpm Quantum Bigfoot's for a data drive and that didn't slow the system down!

For SATA drives, you need a Serial ATA controller, either onboard or an add-in card - if you've never heard of it and your mobo is more than 18months old, then don't get too stressed about it.... for that sort of money, try getting one of the Maxtor Plus 10's.... you should be able to get the 300Gb Plus 10.... they're £120, which usually means about $150! 16Mb cache and some funky onboard drive controllers!

Raptor's probably not the

My maxtor generates more noise than my WDC (if you care 'bout noise :P)
