Hi!

Somehow I am missing the feature which makes all of those insect aliens and all of the "bathrooms" gleaming...

...i hope gleaming is the right word - here is the screenshot which shows what i'd like to have....

i don't think it's a hardware problem - because a friend of mine who uses the same graphics card and the same drivers and the same half life 2 graphics settings - he's got them - but i don't - and i think it looks very pretty ...

...any idea anyone?

sorry for the bad english! ;)

Have you got all the settings on high in the graphics options?

jep exept that i got trilinear filtering and 2x antialiasing - but they don't make any difference - set it to maximum doesn't take any effect...

...my idea would maybe be the directX driver (?!) which is shown as 9.0 in the graphics options - but i got 9.0c according to dxdiag - or is that all right?

Care to post a screenshot of what you have (Whatever you get will be what the screenshot gets, so if its not doing it, the screenshot will not get it either)

Yeah, Post a screenshot of a scene where there should be shinyness. Could be some console command that's b0rked and made the shiny stuff turn off.

here it is:

the red arrows mark the spots where shinyness is supposed to be :)

and that's how it should look:

//EDIT

but my friend has got also shinyness on those bathroom floors etc...

I've got a Radeon 9800 Pro with ATI Catalyst 4.12 beta running...

and - of course DX9.0c + high settings in hl2

the first picture you've posted was just out of a tech demo and not representative how it looks in the game. The insects in the game don't have that shinyness so you don't missing out on anything there. Some of the floor are shiny though but not everywhere

hm... i'm quite sure that my friends insects do have that shinyness - actually - so here's my question:

do your insects have that shinyness??!

:)

The technical term would be Specular Lighting I believe (from 3dsMax experience).

The insects do to have shinyness fool. I have no idea whats wrong with your comp geroni, I have the same graphics card and I get shinyness.

try using the -dx9 switch on your shortcut...there is also a -dxlevel 90 switch too but I'm not sure what the difference is. Shoot, try both...

But the antlions and floors don't have quite so extensive shinyness tho? I get the shiny floors and antlions but they don't reflect light as much as in the HDR-bink.
