I'm new at burning cd's help!!!

I just baught a cd burner rewritable thing and its not letting me burn stuff, do i not have the right cd to burn on?

I add my files and stuff i want to burn and then click burn button and it ejects the cd out and tells me theres was an error and then ask me if i want to save it.

this is what i got

You got dvd for cd burner...

Use common sense....

You need CD-R not DVD-R.

Actually, I've been having DVD burning trouble too...if anyone cares too help..
When I plug in my USB DVD-RW burner and switch it on, it shows up as a "DVD/RW Drive", mmkay good.
But THEN I put in a blank DVD-RW, and the name of the drive changes to "CD Drive," and...well I can't burn anything...the only thing I've tried to use is Nero so maybe I should look for a good burning program, but I don't think it will help...I think it's the burner itself because it's done this on two different PCs

Ah well in the trash it goes...by trash I mean eBay muahahahah j/k gg k sleep now

well, i can burn cds of all kind left and right. but ive got a dvd burn that can burn dvds at 16x +/-, 8x rw+, 4x rw-, 4x double layer +/- and all ive been able to burn is data dvds. my nero is a ****** and says it can burn dvd but always errors. what kind of software do ya'll use for burning dvds

Ok THIS IS DRIVING ME INSANE!!!

I just got the right cd's finally
Ran the programs burned a cd then i reformatted my pc and then after reformat i popped in the cd that i burned and it wont let me click and drag the folders onto my desktop . WHAT IS GOING ON HERE IT SHOULD WORK!!! ALL MY SAVED GAMES AND STUFF ARE ON THE DISK!!!
