Hello, I've been gaming for a while, but I'm just not up to snuff when it comes to Radeon. (I'm a longtime Geforce user.) I just bought a new computer with the works for University/Hl2 -- 3.4 Pentium 4 Processor, flat monitor, 512 MB RAM, 250 GB hard-drive. But it came with a Radeon X300 -- how fast is this? What is the equal for Geforce cards?

Thanks for any help.

your card is the equivilant of a 9200= u have one mighty SHITTY card...upgrade your card to a radeon 9800pro u can find it for 200 bucks at some places

BUt everytihng thing else is TOP notch ...just not the video card

The X300 is PCI Express. A 9800 Pro will not work.

I'd personally say that the X300's performance is on par with a vanilla 9600. Plus it has DX 9 support. And it is highly overclockable.

If you have the money, upgrade to an X800XT and another 512mb of ram ;)

Damn man, I can't, I'm already set back a chunk of money. :( Will this card at least run the game? I'm not looking for superb quality in everything, I just wanted to make sure, you know, it's at least a GeForce Five...is there any way to download the Hl2 benchmark without getting CS: Source? I guess I should test this thing out.

Kind of dissapointed, but hopefully this thing isn't THAT bad...

If my suspicision is correct, you should run HL2 at medium, medium/high visual settings at 1024 by 768 at 30 frames per second.

HL2 will scale all the way back to the original Geforce video card. In terms you can understand, the X300 will roughly have the same performance as a Geforce FX 5600.

UPDATE: I have an X300 SE PCI-E..don't know if that makes a difference...

Ouch its an SE... You should try and update that card.

yeah se's arent that great

my suggestion is, shell out $200 and get the new 6600GT (it comes out at the end of the month)

it REALLY will be worth it, get a part time job or something, you will WANT that 6600gt.

Ok people the X300 is PCI-E he can't get a 9800 pro cause it's AGP. Get a 6600GT they're better than 9800 pro's anyway.

You'll still be able to play HL2 decent. Just wait til it comes out and you can test it.

exactly

:hmph: The x300 is ****in brilliant. Seriously it's one of the best deals you can get. I mean it's overclockability is ****in amazing, that is why... you can do all this with the stock cooler that can get you on par with a 9600, which is enough to play Half Life 2!

right but if he shells out $200 and gets the new 6600GT he can play everything on high. for a fairly cheap price.

HAIL THE 6600GT

Run the x300 @ 1024x768 without any FSAA or AF on and hl2 will be more than playable. The card is about as fast as a non pro ATI 9600.

Yes but at stock it SUKCs.......its a very good overclocker get a tool called ATItool and run it to find MAX core and Mem and u will be fine.....

Please don't say anything if you don't know what you are talking about. I think it is a great card if you don't play video games that much. It is more than enough to play HL2. It also happens to be highly overclockable as well if he decides he wants to go the overclocking route. And in the case he wants to upgrade, he has PCI Express.

LMAO i do noe what im talking about x300 is like my old 9200 pro agp and it cant do much ...im srry at stock it will run at low/meduim settings and LOw Res for 30-60 fps. BUT i recomemde u OVERCLOCK cuz that card can overclock great. Then u will get Meduim/high settings at meduim Res :) 20-35 fps

get a 6600GT, listen to me, not these other bastards. 6600 RULES.

metalhead, all of the ****ing posts i have seen by you have been about a 6600. Are you a spokesperson for nVidia or something? Just stfu.

haha, no the 6600 rules. GET IT NOW GET IT WHEN IT COMES OUT I MEAN

i mean, everyone who doesn't have a high end card, aren't you pumped about this card? if performs as well a 6800LE!!!

I'm only doing this once.

Take a look at the AquaMark 3 scores here

Now take a look at the AquaMark 3 scores (no AA or AF) here

According to the legion hardware scores, the X300 performs the same as a ATI Radeon 9600 if you compare the AquaMark 3 scores with the Toms Hardware guide. The X300 trashes the 9200. It is not even close.

The X300 is not the *worldest* best card, but it gets the job done, and gets it done well for its price. Not everybody can afford, or wants an expensive graphics card. I'm merely saying that HL2 will be quite playable with his current graphics card.

Eternity heres a piece of advice, listen to Asus and blahblahblah :)
they really know their stuff on hardware and have given very good advice previously.

I stand corrected srry bout that LOL yes it does Perform good ....Youll have a good mainstream card when OC'ed

isnt the x700XT $50 more then a 6600GT, and they are supposed to perform exatcly the same :|

Okay, I downloaded the Doom 3 demo, and I could run it on 1024 times whatever with details on high without a hitch. So I think I should be okay...

Really?! Even if it were overclocked, there's no way it could be running smoothly at that setting. Are you sure it's not an X800? No way an X300 can do that.
