Companioncube?

I recently beat portals as you can tell from my name. One thing is driving me crazy though. Why does GLaDos try to kill you in the end of test chamber 19?

Maybe I just never payed much attention to what she said before the last battle. Anyone care to explain this to me?

By the way, sorry if someone already posted this and I'm making myself look like a retard.

Shit, I Noticed the damn typo in the title of this thread. Sorry, I'll see if I can fix it

Cuz that makes for great gaming.

Story-wise it's open for interpretation but the general consensus is that something is wrong with glados and it "goes crazy" over the course of the game. And crazy people(things?) don't need a reason to kill you, that's the perks of being nuts.

Was the testing over and so you were surplus to requirements or was everything that followed just more testing. You decide.

Once you finished the test, you are no use anymore. Glados just makes statistics about how people react and understand the portals use. When you succeed, she does the same as we do with lab rats, a clean desinfection process to ensure that the new tester wont be spoiled be the older ones.

She says that she has a surprise for you, I think that the surprise was the cake you see at the very end and that she only tried to kill you after you destroyed her "Morality core".

Edit: whoops didn't see the "test chamber 19" part of the OP.

GLaDOS doesnt value human life. She uses them as tools to produce the Portal Gun. Seeing it worked, she no longer needed you as a tool, and sought to get rid of you.

And if you were Chell, would you give up the portal gun willingly? They'd have to wrench it from my charred, skeletal fingers too... that thing is worth more than the organs and combined incomes in everyone in my home town!

She would have killed you much sooner, but the morality core installed in her kept her from doing it directly. Throughout the game, she was in a constant battle with herself to say/do evil things (hence, the audio cut-outs in mid sentence).
