Internet service providers are struggling to deal with a new law requiring them to axe the internet connections of customers who "repeatedly" access pirated material.

Section 92A of the Copyright (New Technologies) Amendment Act, passed last year, takes effect on February 28.

It says ISPs will have to "reasonably implement" a policy to disconnect "in appropriate circumstances" the internet services of users who have repeatedly downloaded or uploaded infringing music, movies, games or other copyright material.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I concur with the above 2 statements.

One stroll down Google lane and you'll find the methods to not be boned.

Well sheeeeeeit.

Out of curiosity, how much can ISPs track which content you're accessing already? I've always been curious about this.

The world is becoming a great big corporate pussy fest.

Ah well if it's not one asshole trying to control things, it's another one.

Use TOR or other internet anonymous tools, they shouldnt be able to see any internet activity you do when activated. Although it would slow you down a bit.

What this translates to, probably, is that it's a new law requiring them to axe the internet connections of customers WHO HAVE BEEN REPEATEDLY WARNED BY COPYRIGHT HOLDERS for accessing pirated material.

It's probably just an extension of how it has worked in a lot of countries already... Record or film companies scrape a tracker for a certain torrent and demand that an ISP sends letters to all the IP's involved, or whatever it is they do. People who get more than one are probably in trouble.

So you are screwed, in that your country writes shitty legislation, but you're probably not screwed in terms of losing your internet access, as long as you take basic steps.

This seems logical.

The fascist illiberal xenophobic technophobic New Zealand government strikes again.

Give it a few months and watch all government departments suddenly lose their connections.

Load of crap to begin with. Anyone with a basic understanding of what NAT is will realise you cannot tie an IP address to any one person. How can you blame the account holder when it's not in their power to dictate what otherwise will do on that connection. Unsecured wireless anyone?

I'm not screwed. But a guy I know who gets over 100 movies a month is
