I'm so confused about release date

I know this has been asked a million times already...but can someone give me a legit estimate for when this game is coming out?....I've seen so many different dates that I am completely confused. Thanks in advance

1. There is no current release date for Half-Life 2. The only official date we have ever recieved was September 30th, 2003, as Snowknight stated.

2. Preloading is done before the game is released (hint, think about the prefix, PRE.

For the record, September 30th was not the only official date. Valve told us "Summer" and VU said "April." Don't give me that crap about VU dates not being official, because they are.

Actually, VU never directly said April. It was some VU employee that was being laid off that let that supposed date slip, IIRC.

I admire people saying september but think of the longest date possible before becoming 2005 and thats when you will get the game, November or maybe even December.

Basically within the year of 2004, hopefully. But right now it is anyones guess, Valve hinted at "End of Summer", but we will see for only time will tell...
