I'm Stuck! How to Open Door?

I am about halfway (I think) through the 'Follow Freeman level' I've destroyed the first two generators and am trying to get to the third one but I'm stuck.:hmph: I hate asking for help, but I can't figure this out. I've read through numerous walkthroughs and it appears that I need to get into a room full of red lasers, but there is a big metal sliding door that is closed that I believe is the entrance. How do I open it? Or maybe a better question, why is it closed? Hopefully I've made it clear where I am. Thanks in advance for any help!

I think I know what you mean. There's a button in the alcove next to the door.

No Go

You're saying that it is in the same hallway as the door? I can't find it.

Here's a screen shot of the door

Oh... Uh, not entirely sure where you are there. All I can suggest is ensuring you've disabled all the power generators, and thouroughly search the area.

I've never seen a door there. Does Barney say anything? I recommend either reloading your save, or noclipping through.

Please post a smaller picture.

I'm browsing on my cell phone from 1982.

Hmmm. Well, I replayed it from Entaglement and the door was open. Go figure? Thanks for all of the posts!

i also have this prob(sorry for reviving an old topic), but after destroying the first two generators i moved in to the room defended by lasers.

The first two times i touched them, killing me. Filled with rage i decided to pick up the table and throw it at the lasers while standing outside the door. The steel doors shut and i waited, expecting them to open again and they never did. :(

I know that i can load it but this shouldnt be able to happen in the first place, as i expected that after all this time the bugs would be gone.

Well, show me a game with no bugs... Besides, it's a less a bug than an example of the game being terminally unforgiving, which HL2 very rarely is. That room is supposed to be Game Over if you trip a laser - either it kills you or it closes off the route. Maybe it's a bad design choice to up the stakes like that, but that's how it is, and it doesn't make it any less of a Game Over if you somehow manage to get out of dying. Perhaps Valve should have implemented one of those fade to black screens with 'SUBJECT: FREEMAN, STATUS: TERMINATED', or whatever.

Fact is, you have to reload. Jump the lasers. The room is constructed in a way that makes it entirely possible to do so. Use pipes, bits of machinery... look around, take it slowly. There's always some place to jump to. Hold crouch to move slowly when you're in a precarious position (but remember to release it before taking a jump, sometimes you need a little speed), and use the grav gun to pull the hoppers off the floor while you're perched on top of the racks.
