Most of all: It reminded me of HL 1. The whole I have to break out and there's technology and huge, impressive levels everywhere is just so ... 1998! I absolutely love it! I hope they continue to do stuff like this.

I always hoped you got out at Black Mesa in the end and you'd get to see some Black Mesa Lab: Source glory...

I was intensely interested in Ep2, so I had read a lot of spoilers concerning it before hand. I only thing I really knew about Portal was that it was a puzzle game and it would tie into the HL universe some how. Playing the game included so much I was not expecting that I almost enjoyed it more the Ep2. Loved it.

You would think I would learn to avoid spoilers by now, lol.

I agree, I did get a Black Mesa-ish feel from the late levels of the game.

It is large facility, the nuke cannot destroy all of it, there are underground labs far under the surface.
Possibly, but I highly doubt anyone would want to go to the gigantic crater just to find labs hundreds of meters below the surface. Unless I misread this thread.

Yes! Absolutely. This is exactly what I was thinking when playing Portal beyond the last room. It fel just like creeping around the bowels of Black Mesa, trying to get back to the surface. Valve have really moved on with HL2 & the 2 episodes. That's good & it needed to happen. But it's so good to get back to a Black Mesa like environment. Portal was an unexpected treasure.

For me Portal felt like Half Life 1 + The Cube + Hall, but with a feminine voice.
So yeah I liked it.
