immediate fail

Recently i have purchesed hl2, but when i go to launch game it comes up with with hl2.exe has incured a error and had to close.
i am very confused about this because i have only just bought it and it doesnt load up at all. please help because i want to get stuck into this game. thank you.

i bought it and installed it off of steam so i have no disk or anything.

and for error message its simpley the universal example.exe has incured a error and had to close do you want to send a report, so unfortunatly there is no details of why it failed

Have you restarted the computer lately?

do you mean turn on and off or selecting restart because i havent slected restart for ages.

They both end up doing the same thing, just with a restart you don't have to hit the power button.

If you haven't since you installed the game, try that.

nope it still doesnt work and i uninstalled and reinstalled but still no luck. =[

Do you have your latest graphic drivers installed? Check out the ati website.

Also do you have the latest direct x installed (Directx 9c). Older versions can be problematic.

noooooo now my gmod doesnt work. =[
when i go to load, it says its launching, then download paused, then normal then the box saying launching dissapears but nothing happens.
oh my two problems now instead of one. ='[

Try reinstalling steam. The only downside is that you might have to redownload all the updates for your games.
Now. It fixed one of my problems..

to save downloading games again i moved my intire steamapps folder elsewere then unistall and reinstalled steam but i t back yet it still doesnt work. =[
could it be something to do with my steamapps folder then?

im now unisnatlling and re installing gmod, because it loads others fine
