Ok, this damn virus is really screwing me over. Over time im losing features and programs no longer run. My whole movie playing ability is now gone. I installed nortan antivirus and that doesnt do crap- it scanned for viruses and found 72 until it couldnt delete this one and now it gets hung up and every time i try to uninstall it says that the program is running and cant be uninstalled- i tried deleting the processes and everything but its pretty much jammed- restarting doesnt help either- so i backed up my important files on cds-

NOW i need to know how to reformat my hard drives- im using windows xp professional and i know you have to press certainkeys in the startup and type certain things to reformat- ive just forgotten how to do it. thx.

i think its called w32pin or something like that- but what im really asking is how to reformat my hard drive- how do i make my boot disk too.

to format: plug in a boot disc....and at the prompt type "format c:" without quotes, and voilla

i;d rather make the disk myself to be 100 % sure- i know i did it before but i cant remember where the option was to make it- or if i had to type something at the command prompt.

well i gotta get to bed- any feedback you guys can give me would really help- especially telling me how to make my boot disk. I have a blank diskette just need to know where- then i should be able to reformat.

reason I moved this.... cos people who hang out in here are far more likely to be able to help :)

You have Windows XP, it seems, so just boot off the CD (which IS a boot disk) and install XP, it'll format for you. You WILL have to reinstall EVERYTHING, but in the end even performance will be better.

If you have the original XP CD all you have to do is slide it in and restart your computer. Choose the option to reinstall Windows and everything will be fixed.

yeah, if you just have the XP cd, put it in, when you start your computer there ya go, You dont need to make a boot disc.

Did you ever try to quarantine the file? If not, try. Also, if you could take a screenshot of all your processes (CTRL+ALT+DEL then go to the Processes tab) then maybe we could figure out what the problem is. If you just want to reformat, then just pop in the Windows XP CD and reinstall Windows. If you format, remember to use the NTFS file system instead of FAT32, that way you don't have to defragment.
